I normally like her, but I thought it was crass and unfunny.
I agree. I thought her comments about torturing the losers by making them sing was funny, though.

Ellen now has her street cred to be an Idol judge. She has started her own record company, 1111, pronounced eleven eleven, and signed her first artist - a 12 year old boy last name Chance from Edmond, OK.

She discovered him on You Tube and invited him on the show to sing his version of GaGa's Paparazzi. He really is terrific. Today she had him back and he performed his own composition about a broken heart. He even had the Old women in the audience mouthing WOW.

She found out that the three families named Chance in Edmond had been inundated with phone calls from agents and I guess she decided that she better do something before he and his family got eaten alive by the sharks. Frankly, I think she made a good decision. He is a piano-man song writer and with the looks to be the next Justin Bieber (also discovered on You Tube.) He is also younger than Justin - who is getting positively ancient in teen years. LOL

Good luck Ellen now that you've joined the Recording Crowd.

Smart, smart woman. The kid is amazing.

Ellen does seem to have a genuine interest in and love for music. I support her role on idol (to a degree), and I support her new endeavor.

I wonder if she'll pick up some past idols???

I'm hoping there is some way she can bring Crystal into the fold. I think Crystal would thrive more in a small atmosphere where she had more control over her songs and public relations. Now, if 19E would only be generous to DeGeneres...HAH!

I wouldn't say that Ellen "discovered" Grayson. He was a trending on twitter as a sensation. Ellen picked up from there. A number of other promoters were trying to get a hold of him as well. So while she may have been the 1st to roll out the carpet, he was "discovered" by many.

(I know I saw him on youtube and twitter a couple of days before he was on Ellen.)

Ellen said that loads of people were knocking on the kid's door and she figured she better act fast - and that's what she did.

People were definately buzzing before Ellen got ahold of him.

I REALLY hope Ellen treats her talent with respect, i.e. fair contracts, etc. I don't know enough about the biz to say that other labels don't, but stories abound about bad deals and artists getting screwed.

Ellen has an opportunity to trailblaze in this way. Her PR would skyrocket if she does.

I really don't know if this Idol thing is working out. I never was on board with casting Ellen in the first place. The season is over now and I cannot say that she has changed my mind.

Oh I have no doubt that Ellen will treat her talent with respect. She seems to be a really nice person. I do kinda wonder about this whole record label thing though. I kinda think it is a way to boost her AI street credit. And I am not sure how much time she actually has to really nurture the new artists. She can promote... but what about all the other stuff that goes into the business??

But heck, I really like Ellen and if anyone can do it, she can.
