Here are the latest airplay figures thanks to Brian at USA Today.

Alexis, Danny make the Idol airplay chart

Kelly_clarkson_my_life_would_s uck_w This week doesn't see much change at the top of our Idol airplay chart. The Top 10 remains the same as last week, though Kelly Clarkson's My Life Would Suck Without You, Daughtry's What About Now and Carrie Underwood's I Told You So all see significant increases in their spins.

Jennifer Hudson's If This Isn't Love moves from 14 to 11, and Pocketbook, her new single with Ludacris, takes the chart's biggest leap, jumping from 70 to 48. Taylor Hicks' What's Right Is Right and Melinda Doolittle's It's Your Love both see slight airplay increases.

The week's highest debut goes to Elliott Yamin, whose Fight for Love enters at 87. Look just a little below that song, though, and you'll see a couple of interesting new names -- Alexis Grace and Danny Gokey. Alexis' version of I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You) got spins on a couple stations in the hometown of Memphis, Tenn., while Danny's version of Hero picked up play in Tulsa, Okla.; Toledo, Ohio; and San Francisco.

Re: Idol sales totals from USA Today

The weekly sales & downloads update from USA Today:

This week's sales -- and a bunch of other numbers - Idol Chatter - USATODAY.com

This week's sales -- and a bunch of other numbers

With the Grammys and Valentine's Day both past, this week's Nielsen SoundScan sales numbers are largely a lackluster lot. For Idols, David Cook leads the album-sales pack, even with a 35 percent decline. After selling 24,000 units the previous week, he moved just 16,000 (2,000 of them digital sales, where the decrease was just four percent). David's release-to-date total is 994,000 (110,000 digital), by the way, so he's almost sure to pass the million mark this week.

Jennifer Hudson settles back in after her big Grammy bump, her 12,000 sales a 52 percent decrease from 26,000, placing her in the 50th spot among Nielsen SoundScan's best-selling current albums. Total current sales: 633,000.

Carrie Underwood's Carnival Ride stays at 63 on that chart, while moving into the Top 10 on the country chart despite an 18 percent sales decrease. With 10,000 sales (down from 12,000), she's at nearly 2.7 million total. Some Hearts, meanwhile, is off 27 percent from 7,000 to 5,000 (total: 6.7 million).

David Archuleta falls 36 percent to 8,000. It has sold a total of 648,000, 56,000 of them digitally. That means David C. has outsold him almost exactly 2-to-1 in the digital-album realm, and that David C. has sold a higher percentage of his albums digitally than David A. has. Personally, I had expected David A. to have the higher percentage of album downloads, figuring that a younger audience would have translated to more downloads and fewer physical sales.

    Other albums:

Melinda Doolittle, Coming Back to You -- 6,000, off 30 pecent from 9,000 (total: 25,000)

    Daughtry, Daughtry -- 5,000, off 29 percent from 6,000 (total: 4.4 million)

Kellie Pickler, Kellie Pickler -- 2,000, down 25 percent from 3,000 (total: 175,000).

And, with 2,000 sales, Jordin Sparks' album has hit the 1 million mark.

Kelly Clarkson's My Life Would Suck Without You remains the best-selling digital Idol track. Its 126,000 downloads mark a 13 percent decline from the previous weeks 144,000, bringing the track's five-week total to 941,000.

David Cook's Light On is off merely seven percent, from 31,000 to 29,000 (total: 767,000), while Time of My Life falls 23 percent, 12,000 to 9,000 (total: 1.1 million).

Crush takes a 20 percent dip for David Archuleta, from to 24,000 from 30,000, bringing its total to 1.6 million. A LIttle Too Not Over You sees a smaller drop, just 5 percent, keeping it in the 11,000 range and making its total 114,000.

Carrie Underwood bucks the downward trend with her new single, I Told You So. It takes a healthy 43 percent jump from 7,000 to 10,000 (total: 57,000)

    Other track sales:

Jennifer Hudson, Spotlight -- 9,000, off 23 percent from 12,000 (total: 1.1 million)

Jordin Sparks w/Chris Brown, No Air -- 14,000, down 23 percent from 18,000 (total: 2.8 million)

Kellie Pickler, Best Days of Your Life -- 6,000 downloads last week (total: 95,000)

With Clay Aiken's departure from RCA, I figured now might be a good time to take stock of his album sales for the label.

    • Measure of a Man: 2.78 million
    • Merry Christmas With Love: 1.37 million
    • A Thousand Different Ways: 529,000
    • On My Way Here: 160,000

And, just for kicks, here are some cumulative SoundScan numbers for Bucky Covington and Josh Gracin, courtesy of the good folks at Lyric Street Records. First, the total album sales:

    • Josh Gracin, Josh Gracin: 701,000
    • Josh Gracin, We Weren't Crazy: 77,000
    • Bucky Covington, Bucky Covington: 403,000

    Now, Josh's downloads:

    • Nothin' to Lose: 274,000
    • We Weren't Crazy: 207,000
    • Stay With Me (Brass Bed): 85,000
    • I Want to Live: 77,000
    • Unbelievable (Ann Marie): 26,000
    • Favorite State of Mind: 20,000

Finally, here are Bucky's top-selling downloads:

    • A Different World: 278,000
    • I'll Walk: 171,000
    • It's Good to Be Us: 86,000

Re: Idol sales totals from USA Today

Weekly Airplay data, from the good man over at USA Today.

Idol Chatter: American Idol News, Rumors & Information – USATODAY.com

Idol airplay: Kelly's on top, Kris is on the bottom

Kelly_clarkson_my_life_would_s uck_w Big surprise: Kelly Clarkson's My Life Would Suck Without You is at the top of our Idol airplay chart this week. In fact, with 12,357 spins, it's got more the double the spins of the No. 2 song, David Cook's Light On. Seen from another perspective, MLWSWY has more spins than the bottom three-quarters of the chart combined.

And speaking of the bottom of the chart, Kris Allen's Man in the Mirror slips into the 100 spot this week with three spins -- the only one of last week's Top 12 finalists to make the chart (Adam Lambert and Allison Iraheta each received just two spins.)

In between those extremes, Jennifer Hudson's If This Isn't Love replaces Carrie Underwood's Just a Dream in the Top 10, and Kellie Pickler's Best Days of Your Life moves climbs into the Top 20. Taylor Hicks' What's Right Is Right stays put at 45, though it continues to add spins, while Melinda Doolittle's It's Your Love loses a spin but gains a spot, moving from 57 to 56. And George Huff's Don't Let Go, the first single from his sophomore album due next month, makes its chart debut at 82.

(Check out the full chart after the jump.)

Re: Idol sales totals from USA Today

    This week's Idol airplay chart

Half of the songs in the Top 10 of the Idol airplay chart see spin increases this week. Kelly Clarkson’s My Life Would Such Without You, of course, stays in the top spot with nearly a thousand more spins (12,357 to 13,309). She’s currently at 3 on USA TODAY’s Top 40 airplay chart and 4 on its Hot AC chart.

Carrie Underwood’s I Told You So, Daughtry’s Feels Like Tonight, Jennifer Hudson’s If This Isn’t Love and David Archuleta’s Crush also pick up plays. If This Isn’t Love is the only one that moves up the chart, leap-frogging Crush and Carrie’s Before He Cheats to land in the 7 spot.

Elliott Yamin has the week’s highest debut, as Fight for Love debuts at 59 as a dozen new Hot AC and Top 40 stations (most notably WDKF-FM in Dayton, Ohio) pick up the song. Ten Urban and Urban AC stations (including WSBY-FM in Salisbury, Md.) add Ruben Studdard’s new single Together, putting it on the chart for the first time at 66.

Gospel station WTHB-FM in Augusta, Ga., more than doubles its spins of George Huff’s Don’t Let Go and two other stations add the record, making it this week’s most mobile chart climber, as it moves from 82 to 63.

Meanwhile, stations in Columbus, Ohio; Providence, R.I.; and Houston get a jump on Kelly Clarkson’s new album by playing its second song, I Do Not Hook Up. That’s enough to put it on the chart at 96.

Re: Idol sales totals from USA Today

It’s been a couple of weeks for sales totals, but here is the latest.

Jennifer Hudson leads Idols in weekly album sales - Idol Chatter - USATODAY.com

Jennifer Hudson leads Idols in weekly album sales

Jennifer Hudson has the top-selling Idol album this week, barely edging out David Cook. Both albums sold approximately 11,000 copies, Jennifer’s album landing at 42 on Nielsen SoundScan’s Top Current Albums chart and David’s coming in three spots lower, at 45. Both albums saw their weekly sales drop a bit, Jennifer’s a bit less (12 percent) than David’s (16 percent). Jennifer’s album has sold 657,000 since its release, David’s 1 million.

Carrie Underwood comes in next at 53. Carrie sees a 1 percent fall-off (10,000 sales) for Carnival Ride, but against a weak field, the album actually moves up eight spots (and three spots on the country chart, to 7). Carnival Ride has sold 2.7 million total.

Sales of David Archuleta’s album slipped 24 percent, to 5,000 (total: 660,000), taking him out of the Top 100 (106).

David Foster’s Hit Man collection, on the other hand, saw a 54 percent increase, moving it from 169 to 112 on the chart (5,000, 160,000 total).

Daughtry moves up to 139 with a 3 percent drop (4,000, 4.4 million total).

Melinda Doolittle’s Coming Back to You comes in at 136 with an 18 percent drop (4,000, 34,000 total).

Somewhere, Elliott Yamin picked up 3,000 sales of his My Kind of Holiday album (I’m guessing it’s a reporting glitch), enough to put him back on the chart at 162 just a few days before spring. It does, however, increase the album’s sales total by more than 10 percent, to 27,000.

While weekly sales of Kellie Pickler’s sophomore album dropped 6 percent (2,000), she moved up from 37 to 34 on the country chart (total: 179,000).

Phil Stacey sees a revival of interest in his album, which more than doubled its previous week’s sales (108 percent, to be exact) to more than a thousand, enough to have him re-enter the country chart at 49 (total: 40,000). Guess that syndicated blog he’s doing is paying off.

    Current Digital Tracks info:

Kelly Clarkson, My Life Would Suck Without You (102,000 sales, down 2 percent, total 1.1 million)

David Cook, Light On (19,000, down 17 percent, total 809,000)

Brooke White, Hold Up My Heart (14,000, down 73 percent, total 65,000)

David Archuleta, Crush (13,000, down 20 percent, total 1.6 million)

Jennifer Hudson, If This Isn’t Love (7,000, down 16 percent, total 48,000)

David Cook, Time of My Life (6,000, down 19 percent, total 1.1 million)

David Archuleta, A Little Too Not Over You (6,000, down 10 percent, total 127,000)

Jennifer Hudson, Spotlight (6,000, down 31 percent, total 426,000)

Kellie Pickler, Best Days of Your Life (6,000, down 3 percent, don’t have a total)

Thanks always to Nielsen SoundScan for providing the sales figures.

Good Grief! This is the sales figures for the previous week. Not the lifetime of the show.

Re: Idol sales totals from USA Today

This weeks airplay standings, thanks again to Brian at USA Today.

This week's Idol airplay chart - Idol Chatter - USATODAY.com

    This week's Idol airplay chart

Finally, some movement in the top 10 of our Idol airplay chart! On the week of her return to American Idol, Carrie Underwood moves into the 2 spot with I Told You So behind My Life Would Suck Without You. (Carrie also has the highest-debuting track on this week's chart, as her cover of Mötley Crüe's Home Sweet Home enters at 38.) David Cook's Light On falls two notches to 4. Jennifer Hudson's If This Isn't Love and Daughtry's Feels Like Tonight swap places, as do Carrie's Before He Cheats and David Archuleta's Crush.

My Life Would Suck Without You continues to increase its spins, to nearly 14,000, though perhaps it's worth noting that Pink's Sober has leapfrogged MLWSWY on the Hot AC chart and Flo Rida's Right Round has done the same on the Top 40 side. Several other songs from All I Ever Wanted make their debuts on the chart, as the title tracks, Don't Let Me Stop You and Already Gone all appear in the 90s. I Do Not Hook Up picks up a few more spins, enough to take it from 96 to 65.

Kellie Pickler's Best Days of Your Life continues its steady move up the Top 20, to 15 this week, and Ruben Studdard's Together picks up 110 spins, enough to take it from 66 to 48. Elliott Yamin's Fight for Love climbs from 59 to 50, while George Huff's Don't Let Go nearly doubles its spins, moving from 63 to 58. Interest in the new singles from Taylor Hicks and Melinda Doolittle, however, seems to be waning.

Only one Season 8 contender makes this week's chart -- Danny Gokey, in the 99th slot with his version of Michael Jackson's P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing). For what it's worth, a handful of other finalists picked up either two or three spins, not enough to put them in the Top 100.

Re: Idol sales totals from USA Today

Here are the weekly sales, earlier than usual. Pretty nice for Kelly, not so nice for Taylor.

'All I Ever Wanted' is a Number One album - Idol Chatter - USATODAY.com

'All I Ever Wanted' is a Number One album

As expected, Kelly Clarkson’s All I Ever Wanted makes its debut as the week’s best-selling album, easily perched atop the lists of Top Current Albums and Top Digital Albums from Nielsen SoundScan. All I Ever Wanted sold 255,000 copies in its first week, 70,000 of them digitally.

The week’s other Idol debut, Taylor Hicks’ The Distance, entered at 58 on the chart, selling 9,000 units.

Chalk it up to her announced American Idol appearance or a hot new single, but weekly sales of Carrie Underwood’s Carnival Ride rose 25 percent, from 10,000 to 12,000 (2.7 million total).

Jennifer Hudson stayed even at 11,000 units (668,000 total), while David Cook dropped from 11,000 to 10,000, a 9 percent decline (1.03 million total).

Outside the Top 100, David Foster’s Hit Man collection climes 19 percent, from 5,000 to 6,000 (166,000 total).

David Archuleta slides 6 percent, though staying in the 5,000 range (665,000 total).

Daughtry’s album sees a slight increase of 3 percent (4,000 for the week, 4.4 million total).

Melinda Doolittle’s Coming Back to You, however, falls off 23 percent, to 3,000 (37,000 total).

On the current country albums chart, Carnival Ride takes the 5 spot and Kellie Pickler comes in at 32, selling about 2,000 units, a 10 percent decline from the previous week (181,000 total).

As far as current digital tracks, Kelly Clarkson’s return to American Idol boosted downloads of My Life Would Suck Without You 38 percent to 141,000 (1.3 million total).

Already Gone had the strongest debut of the rest of her album’s tracks, getting 32,000 downloads. Other songs from All I Ever Wanted that made SoundScan’s Current Digital Tracks chart: If I Can’t Have You (16,000), I Do Not Hook Up (15,000), Cry (12,000), Don’t Let Me Stop You (11,000), All I Ever Wanted (9,000) and Long Shot (9,000).

Carrie Underwood’s Mötley Crüe cover, Home Sweet Home, makes its debut at 8 on the chart with 112,000 sales. (That’s right behind the new Rascal Flatts single, by the way. Here Comes Goodbye, co-written by Chris Sligh, had the largest number of first-week digital scans for any country single in history – 126,000.)

Kanye West’s Heartless also saw a healthy increase in the wake of his AI performance. It was up 18 percent, from 81,000 to 95,000 (2.6 million total).

    Other significant downloads:

David Cook, Light On (18,000, down 8 percent, 827,000 total)

David Archuleta, Crush (12,000, down 10 percent, 1.6 million total)

Jennifer Hudson, If This Isn’t Love (6,000, down 7 percent, 54,000 total)

I may have some additional figures for you later today. If that turns out to be the case, I'll post them here.
