    Current Hits -

Kady Malloy - Toxic (Brit) - I think she would have nailed this song and done it better than Britney, plus it's very popular
Danny Noriega - Umbrella (Rihanna) - Amazing choice for him, he can put attitude and emotion into it
Ramiele - Love Is a Losing Game (Amy Wine) - tenderness and texture in her voice, some soul
David C - I Dare You (Shinedown) - because Chris D. screwed it up, I'd like to see if David can hit the high notes without his voice cracking
Karly - Somewhere Only We Know (Keane) - I think she could do a great job with this song and her Irish lilt would add some flavor
Alaina - Forever and Always (Shania Twain) - Alaina has a good range, could really flesh this song out, unless she forgets the melody like Hopelessly Devoted to You (should have been a great song for her)
David A - Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely (BSB) - Because he can do his sad puppy faces, boyband vocal arrangements and talk about how surprised he is the judges love him
Luke Menard - Lost Without You (Robin Thicke) - Because Robin sounds worse than Luke when live. I think Luke could do a good job with it. He just needs to ditch the lesbian trucker-wear.
Brooke - Put Your Records On (Corrine B.) - Sweet simple song that would fit the texture of her voice and limited vocal range
Amanda - Chasing Cars (Snowpatrol) - She could belt this.
David H - We Belong Together (Mariah) - I could see him singing this.

Touch my bunny, stroke my cow.

Okay, let's forget the idea of rules. Here's the NEW version. NO RULES!

Pick a song, pick an idol. In fact, match as many Idols and songs as you want in each post. Theme the picks if you want. Or don't if you don't want to. No numbering necessary, since everybody just makes their own picks inside each post anyway.

    Rules are for suckers!

Anywho... I was thinking about an Eagles week. Let's try matching some Eagles music with the Idolators.

    * - songs that are gender neutral or easily changed

    --Witchy Woman - David Cook
--*After The Thrill Is Gone - Syesha Mercado
--*Lyin' Eyes - Kristy Lee Cook
    --*Wasted Time - Carly Smithson
    --*I Can't Tell You Why - ChickenCheezy
--One Of These Nights - David Hernandez
    --Tequila Sunrise - David Archuleta
    --*Heartache Tonight - Amanda Overmyer
    --*Deperado - Ramiele Malubay
--Victim Of Love - Michael Johns
--*Best Of My Love - Brooke White
--*Take It To The Limit - Jason Castro

P.S. - Don't feel bound by "Eagles Week" in your follow-up posts, folks. Just post whatever you want.

Speaking of the Eagles, I could also see Brooke doing Peaceful, Easy Feeling.

That combo occurred to me. But there's the lyric "And I found out a long time ago what a woman can do to your soul". I'm not sure it has the same cadence if you substitute "man".

Also, there's the bit about the sparkling earrings in there too.

Good point, I didn't think of it that way.

I think she would also be good at a Dar Williams song, maybe Are You Out There? or As Cool As I Am, but I don't think that's mainstream enough to be a song choice that would get people to vote for her.

Just substitute "lover" for "woman." Works fine.

And I've heard one female singer sing "I like the way your silver turquoise shines against your skin so brown" instead of the "sparkling earrings" line.

Purple Passion...you are right about this song...It was recorded by a Man and needs to be sung by a MAN...not a kid...the man who sings it has to be very confident and have a beautiful clear voice...I would like to hear an idol pull this off because it is a great song.

I would like to hear Jason C.sing "She's So High" recorded by Tal Bachman
(probably doesn't qualify as really current though)

Re: Pick a song... then pick an Idol

Let's revive this topic, since Beatles weeks are gone.

Dolly Parton is an insane assignment, but I can at least think of a FEW matches. I'm no expert on Dolly, but have heard most of her stuff at least a FEW times, and have used Last.fm to fill in the blanks.

So here's a few ideas: (you can click on the links and go to last.fm to play samples of many of these songs)

    --Brooke White - Jolene
--Jason Castro - Here You Come Again (although apparently Dolly didn't write this, so it depends on the "rules" they use for song selection)
--David Archuleta - Coat of Many Colors
    --Ramiele Malubay - 9 To 5
--Syesha Mercado - I Will Always Love You (yes, Dolly WROTE this song)
--Carly Smithson - Old Flames Can't Hold A Candle To You
--David Cook - The Seeker (heavily rearranged for him, of course--still I think it would be hilarious for Cook to sing something that's basically Gospel music)
--Kristy Lee Cook - Why'd You Come In Here Looking Like That (I actually think Kristy could do this well, believe it or not)
--Michael Johns - But You Know I Love You

As a point of reference, here's a link to "The Essential Dolly Parton".

They'd better not be constrained to Dolly written songs though. Cause while she's got a lot, I'm not sure anyone from a Blue State would recognize them!
