After some thought, I would also agree that Elvis did have a wide variety of music from which to choose. It just really brings to mind a bad visual image...and I just cannot get it out of my brain...shame on me is right!
    No problem!

Someone here did mention that the guy who is now in charge of Elvis Presley Enterprises is the same man who bought American Idol. I don't have the link handy but this is why I mentioned it.

It also seemed that Paul McCartney was interested in AI. Any news anyone?

I think the guys would be great with Elvis songs, especially Constatine - he would really do well with something like "Heartbreak Hotel" or "Dont Be Cruel", and while I am not a Scott fan I could see him sing "Jailhouse Rock"

I think for the girls - they might do okay on something like "Return to Sender" but it might have to be Elvis for the guys and say Madonna or Joan Jett for the girls. I think Carrie would rock at "I love Rock N' Roll"!

accapella night: no more hiding behind background singers (yeah constantine this means you)

original song night: let us see who the real musicians are and who just got blessed with a decent voice.

reggae night: a least paula will have an excuse to be altered

police / sting night: technical challenge would be interesting

If this is the case, I just don't get it. Why bother having theme nights? The majority of these themes, in my opinion, are not really themes. They may as well just let them sing whatever they like.

I think the girls could do just fine on Elvis night. He recorded so many different songs and genres that nobody would have trouble finding one that would fit them. (Carrie could do "Are You Lonesome Tonight," Von could do "It's Now Or Never," Bo could do "Don't" or "Burnin' Love," Con could do "Jailhouse Rock," etc., etc.

Sting/Police night would be awesome, too. Carrie or Bo could do "Fields Of Gold" la Eva Cassidy. Con could do "Wrapped Around Your Finger." Etc., etc.

If not a capella night, at least acoustic night -- one guitar, a simple piano backup, etc. -- and no backup singers. The band as it is can mask bad vocals but they can also overpower good ones (which I think they did on Bo's first performance of "Remedy" and on some other contestants' songs on other nights).

I don't think they should have to do an original song, but they should be allowed to do one of their own if they choose. The audience wouldn't even need to be told it was an original -- at least till after that week's voting was over (since it's supposed to be a singing competition).

^ Wouldn't it be great if someone belted out (well) George Jones' "He Stopped Loving Her Today"? Yes, I think so.
