Promos for Saturday Night Live have been released. If you haven't seen them on NBC they are available on youtube. Pretty funny stuff, especially the Charlies Angels one.

The great reviews continue, this one is from Pittsburgh tonight.

Underwood in concert carries the night

Underwood in concert carries the night
    Saturday, February 23, 2008
    By Scott Mervis, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

In her first headlining Pittsburgh concert, Carrie Underwood wasn't "pitchy," she wasn't "just awwiight" or any of those other euphemisms for mediocrity you hear on "American Idol."

Underwood brought pure star power and those golden pipes to the Petersen Events Center in Oakland last night before a packed house of adoring fans. She had some rock-star trappings working for her, like a digital countdown on the giant screen to pump up the crowd and a trap door that allowed her to rise from beneath the stage for the opener, "Flat on the Floor."

At first, it seemed like the eight-piece band might overwhelm the young singer. It certainly wasn't assembled with the Grand Ole Opry in mind. They looked and sounded like a rock band, equipped with pedal steel, fiddle and electric banjo when needed on songs like "Get Out of this Town" or "Last Name," the pop-metal-country tune that's more like a night out with Britney than Carrie.

It wasn't a down-home sound and, in fact, during one of Underwood's wardrobe changes, they toyed with "Foreplay" from the first Boston album.

Underwood's costumes went from a jet-black Benatar look to blue ruffled bridesmaid dress to pink tank and jeans. She was like a Barbie for all occasions.

The voice, it didn't disappoint. It shone through brightest in a trilogy of power ballads in the middle of the show -- "Just a Dream," a tragedy of a widowed bride; "Jesus, Take the Wheel," a near-tragedy and religious epiphany; and "I Know You Won't," a little slice of heartache. As Randy J. would say, she killed it on all of them, belting out the low ones and soaring with the high notes.

She sounded as good or better than the record and her voice only came through when she was actually singing into the mike, so no faking here. She capped the show by donning a glittery silver jacket for a double-shot of Guns 'N Roses and a finale of the Grammy-winning "Before He Cheats."

Simon Cowell was right all along that Underwood has it, and now that she has the stardom, Nashville is going to keep on supplying the songs.

Whether you love her or think she's a manufactured star, prepare to see a lot of Carrie Underwood in the future.

Country stud Josh Turner, who probably would have won "Idol" too, made it look easy and natural as the opener -- an easy thing to do when you have a voice as deep as a cavern and as soft as butter.

It looks as though Carrie's appearance on SNL was a ratings gold mine for the show.

Last night's edition of "Saturday Night Live," hosted by "SNL" alum and "30 Rock" star/executive producer Tina Fey and featuring musical guest Carrie Underwood, has scored the highest "SNL" average rating in more than two years in the 56 local markets metered by Nielsen Media Research.

With its first original telecast since the start of the writers' strike in November, "Saturday Night Live" delivered a 6.1 rating, 15 share in metered-market households. It's the strongest local-market average for "SNL" since February 4, 2006 with a telecast hosted by Steve Martin and featuring musical guest Prince.

"Saturday Night Live" topped the show's average for originals prior to the WGA strike by 36 percent (6.1/15 vs. 4.5/11). Versus the same night last year, SNL was up 17 percent (6.1/15 vs. 5.2/13). It was also the highest metered-market household rating for any telecast on any network for this past Saturday night, including primetime programming. In fact, "SNL" outscored every Saturday primetime telecast on every network over the last six Saturdays.

Last night's edition of "Saturday Night Live" featured appearances by Presidential candidate Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee during "Weekend Update" and Steve Martin during Tina Fey's opening monologue. Cast member Fred Armisen portrayed Presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama in a sketch parodying Thursday's debate and the media's infatuation with Obama.

National ratings and demographic results for last night's "Saturday Night Live" are due from Nielsen Thursday, February 28.

Last night's edition was the first of four consecutive live broadcasts for "SNL." The show returns next week with Academy Award nominee Ellen Page ("Juno") and musical guest Wilco.

The numbers are pretty great for Country artists, I have $$$ figures for some other Country artists that don't even come close. The most impressive thing to note is the percentage of tickets sold. They are pretty much selling out everywhere.

That review by Scott Mervis is some high praise. It's nice to know Carrie's doing well out there in the real world.

Things are beginning to come together for the week of CMA Fest. Carrie’s Fan Club party will be Tuesday June 3rd, & just like last year she will also be appearing on The Grand Ol Opry that night (I know it’s going to come as a surprise, but I already have tickets).

Then just last night the following was announced. This is the event last year where the guy from the group Blue County threw a body block into & knocked her on her ass as she tried to score from third base on a grounder back to the pitcher
