    Re: Carrie Underwood

So CMA Music Fest 2007 has come to an end, I have finally gotten home & it's time for the final report. I know, I know, I can hear the applause, but I'm going to report anyway.

Last night was too many performers shoved into too short a time frame. But, Kellie, Taylor & Brad had all been on tour all week & in Boston the night before so this was the only night any of them had free so they just increased the amount of people & reduced the amout of time they were allotted.

First was Rodney Atkins. He was the Best New male artist this year, but for the life of me I can't figure out why. He's Ok, very energetic & put's on a good show, but there is something missing for me.

Miranda Lambert was next. This girl is on fire. She is a singer songwriter guitar player & all around good performer. But, Blake Shelton better be careful & treat her right or she may become the Crazy Ex Girlfriend & use that Kerosene on him.

All you have to do is mention Billy Currington & the women begin to swoon. So, I'll just say he really gets the crowd going & put on a great show. He is celebrating his first #1 hit with Good Directions.

Kellie Pickler only had time to do Red High Heels & the song about her Mother. But there were tears in the eyes of many in the audience when she finished. It is really a touching thing to watch.

Taylor Swift had her first album certified Platinum just before she went on stage. She has a huge internet fanbase & it just keeps growing. Back in my day when the concert got good everybody held up cigarette lighters. During Taylors performance it was cell phones. The glow looked pretty cool in the stadium.

Big & Rich absolutely burned the place down. These guys are such great performers, not to mention songwriters. Look on the charts anytime & you will see multiple songs by multiple artists written by either Big Kenny or John Rich.

Gretchen Wilson got to perform this year. She got rained out last year. I was glad to see her & she & her band were really tight. But, I think her party girl/tough bitch image needs to be looked at again. She seems to have lost a large part of what got her to where she is now. She hasn't really broken any new ground for a while now. Falling album sales & cancelled concerts due to lack of ticket sales speak volumes.

Brad Paisley is always always on. He puts on a great show & the boy can play guitar with anybody. It was a great way to end the night & the week.

So, it's over for this year, but I will be on the phone with the travel agent tomorrow morning to book for next year. June 5 - 8 2008.

    Re: Carrie Underwood

Here is a story about the Charity Softball game from last week. The funny thing is that it was the After Midnight Team against the Grand Ole Opry team. But before it was all over the announcer was announcing them like this: After Midnight 5 & Carries Team 6. It morphed into Carries team almost without anyone even noticing it. And, by the way, the line drive knocked the pitcher on his ass, she smoked it.

News : Headlines : Carrie Underwood Steps Up to the Plate : Great American Country

June 12, 2007 — Carrie Underwood's teammates at last week's City of Hope Celebrity Softball Challenge made it known to their opponents that messing with the American Idol was not a good idea.

After her first at-bat, Carrie was about to get tagged out when a giant cat mascot dove on the first baseman, giving her the chance to run by safely. Later in the game, as Carrie was rounding third and heading home, she got tackled by Blue County's Aaron Benward, which caused her teammates to pounce on him as the crowd playfully booed. Shortly after the incident, Carrie was escorted to her centerfield position by two police officers and Two Foot Fred, who guarded her, holding a big plastic baseball bat. Carrie did get her revenge, however, smacking a line drive down the middle of the field and right into Aaron's abdomen. At the end of the day, Carrie's Grand Ole Opry Live team squeaked by with a 9-8 victory over the After Midnight with Blair Garner team.

Despite all the shenanigans, Carrie says she came to play. She told Dial-Global before the game that when she was a teenager, she attended the charity game as a fan and used to hang out in the dugouts. "I'm a different person when I'm on the softball field," she said. "I'm gonna show everybody what I'm made of, and we're gonna have a serious game."

Here is a nice article out of Wisconsin, I thought ya’ll mike like to see.

Country USA: Carrie Underwood not just a flash in the pan
    By Jon Bream
    McClatchy Newspapers
Carrie Underwood spent New Year’s Eve in 2005 hanging out with friends in her college town of Tahlequah, Okla. Last New Year’s Eve, a sellout crowd of Minnesotans paid as much as $75 to hear her sing at a booze-free casino.
    Talk about a meteoric rise.

Underwood has had the fastest, and most consistent, start of any “American Idol” winner. In a year and a half, she went from small-town girl finishing her college degree in journalism to Billboard’s No. 1 album of 2006 and the Country Music Association (CMA) female vocalist of the year.

Moreover, she chose the right format — country — where other Idols have focused on pop, rock or R&B. Not only is country her natural style, but it’s a less crowded field that’s starved for fresh female voices.

“The country music community has been so great to me,” Underwood said with the congeniality you’d expect of a pageant winner. “They were glad to have someone representing country music to such a wide audience on ‘American Idol.’”

Typically, the CMA’s top female prize, like the Oscar for best director, goes to someone who has paid her dues.

“I’ve heard a lot of ‘You deserve it’ and I’ve heard a lot of (questioning) that I haven’t paid my dues,” the 23-year-old newcomer said. “It kind of hurts my feelings a little bit because nobody in the business went through what the contestants on ‘American Idol’ went through. That’s a whole ’nother kind of dues-payin’ right there.

“Being under that much stress when you’re just a nobody — you don’t even know what you’re doing. It’s very, very tough. You take your normal, everyday person who would like to sing and then you put them in such a high-pressure situation where you’re allowed to be critiqued in front of millions of people.”

When her name was announced as the CMA winner, rival nominee Faith Hill was shown on camera mouthing “What?” The new champ wasn’t aware of the flap until after the program ended. But feathers were quickly smoothed that night when Hill phoned Underwood to apologize in a five- to 10-minute conversation.

“I felt so bad because Faith Hill is such a wonderful person and it was just a joke gone bad,” Underwood said. “I know she’s taken a lot of heat for it. I know she would never disrespect anybody like that.”

She has won five Billboard Awards, including album of the year, was named best newcomer at the CMAs and breakthrough artist at the American Music Awards, and won a Grammy for Best New Artist. But her biggest surprise is selling more than 6 million copies of her debut disc, “Some Hearts,” released in November 2005.

“I just wanted my first album to do well enough where I could make a second one,” she said with a giggle. “It definitely exceeded all my expectations.”

Her debut single, “Jesus, Take the Wheel,” went to No. 1 and was a Grammy finalist for song of the year. Underwood didn’t write the tune, but its religious theme was a good fit for her image as wholesome, small-town sweetheart.

Then she threw a curveball with her third single, “Before He Cheats,” an unexpectedly violent song about smashing the headlights and slashing the tires on the vehicle of her philandering boyfriend.

“When I first heard it, I wasn’t sure if it would fit on the album, but I loved the song,” said Underwood, who watched the sassily-sung track spend five weeks atop Billboard’s country chart in the fall. “It’s fun to do something that’s outside your box and play a character that’s not like you. It’s the most fun to perform onstage because there’s just this vibe that people get and sing along. And guys sing along.”

    Re: Carrie Underwood

It looks like Carrie is getting her song writing groove on. Here are 13 songs that she is credited with, but they certainly won’t all make the next album. Should be interesting to see what direction they take.

I really want to hear Can You Spare An Angel, That Don't Mean I Miss You & The Lazy Day Song. And I think What Else You Got would be a great title for the album.

"I Was Gonna Love You" (Barry Dean, Carrie Underwood, Troy Verges)
"Too Close To Home" (Barry Dean, Carrie Underwood, Troy Verges)
"Before I Fall Too Far" (Chris Stapleton, Morgan Hayes, Carrie Underwood)
"Can You Spare An Angel" (Steve McEwan, Carrie Underwood, Brett James)
"Goodbye Feels Like a Good Thing" (Chris DuBois, David Lee, Carrie Underwood)
"If You Ever Admit To Love" (Cathy Dennis, Tom Shapiro, Carrie Underwood)
"That Don't Mean I Don't Miss You" (Kelley Lovelace, Ashley Gorley, Carrie Underwood)
"Everybody Cries"(McEwan Steve, Carrie Underwood, Craig Michael Wiseman)
"Never Get Used To You" (Lindsey HIllary Lee, McEwan Steve, Underwood Carrie)
"The Truth Hurts" (Lindsey Hillary Lee, McEwan Steve, Underwood Carrie)
""All-American Girl" (Ashley Gorley, Kelley Lovelace, Carrie Underwood)
"The Lazy Day Song" (Angelo, Carrie Underwood, Luke Laird)
"What Else You Got (Marv Green Steve McEwan Carrie Underwood)

CMT recaps the CMA Music Fest. It's a long read, so I edited just the part about Carrie. Me thinks they like her. But then again, so did everyone else.

Hot Dish: Recapping the CMA Music Festival

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That night, the LP Field showcased hottie Jason Aldean, Sara Evans (always beautiful and almost single again), the smoking Little Big Town, dancing duo Montgomery Gentry, Sugarland and the beautiful, incredibly talented American Idol winner, Carrie Underwood, who was presented a plaque for shipments of 6 million copies of her debut album. What a show! Anytime Carrie Underwood shows up these days, it's a major moment for the fans. And were they ever excited to see and hear her.

The unbelievable run of Before He Cheats stikes another blow. Check this out. Everybody is getting incredibly rich off of this song.

    CMT.com: News: News In Brief

"Before He Cheats" Ringtone Certified Platinum

Carrie Underwood's "Before He Cheats" has been certified platinum by the RIAA for 1 million purchased ringtones. It's only the second country song in history to earn platinum ringtone status, following Waylon Jennings' "Theme from The Dukes of Hazzard (Good Ol' Boys)." In addition, "Before He Cheats" is the best-selling digital country song in chart history and had previously been certified as a platinum digital single for 1 million purchased downloads.

    Re: Carrie Underwood

This was the 83rd week of Some Hearts being on the charts. The album dropped to #22 on the Billboard Top 200 but had an actual increase in sales over last week. Carrie also finished at #3 on the Country Charts. That means she has been in the Top 5 on the Country Charts for 80 of 83 weeks. The other 3 weeks she dropped all the way to #6. Never out of the Top 10. Pretty amazing stuff. I have to believe that every week the sales figures come in Carrie, Joe Galante & crew just shrug their shoulders, shake their heads, smile really big & count their money.

Sales figures are rounded per USA Today. She sold 41,000, to bring her total to 5.66 million.

Carrie had a concert last night in Wisconsin. Below is an article about people waiting for it to start. I have been reading reports from people that were there & she has revamped parts of her show. She is no longer doing any Guns & Roses. But, as per the request of her band she has added Alone as one of her encore songs (I really hope some of you saw the acoustic version of this that she did at the fanclub party, it is stunning). And instead of Sweet Child Of Mine she gets in touch with her inner hair band & covers "I Remember You" by Skid Row. Evidently it is a true crown pleaser.

Fans stake out seats early to see Carrie Underwood

By Krista B. Ledbetter and Amanda M. Wimmer

OSHKOSH — Christine Young estimates that she ate about 8,000 calories Thursday night.

Young, 20, had cheese curds, pizza on a stick and funnel cake, about six hours worth of food and the amount of time she sat on the grass waiting for Carrie Underwood to take the stage.

"We drove six hours to get here yesterday," the Minnesota native said. "And I just want to see Carrie."

"American Idol" winner turned country superstar Carrie Underwood hit the Country USA main stage just after 11 p.m. with the song "We're Young and Beautiful" from her debut album "Some Hearts."

Underwood and Alan Jackson, who is set to perform Sunday, are the country music festival's biggest headliners, said Dan Liebhauser, Country USA owner/promoter. Day two of the five-day festival was absolutely perfect, he said.

"It has been a tremendous kickoff," Liebhauser said.

The weather at Country USA was beautiful Thursday — sunshine, a soft breeze and no rain — ideal weather for sunbathing. At least that's what Tara Hein and Brooke Dombrowski thought.

Hein and Dombrowski sat in lawn chairs during the afternoon Andy's Automatics show at the main stage. They wanted to reserve their spot for the Carrie Underwood concert, they said.

"We're here for the whole weekend. We definitely want to see Carrie Underwood," said Hein, who has been to CUSA a few times before. "We want to get a sunburn."

The Underwood concert had many excited on the grounds. Women with homemade T-shirts and shorts were in abundance.

"I'm just a fan," said Katie Boardman. "We've had our spots picked out for the show all day."

Those not waiting for the concert to begin enjoyed shopping, food and rides. Cowboy hats, T-shirts and jewelry were among the items people shopped for between musical performances.

The Oshkosh Fire Firefighters were out and about among the festivities Thursday afternoon. But they weren't fighting fires or listening to music. They were taking their shirts off to raise money for muscular dystrophy.

Seven firefighters stood at the front gates collecting money for the cause.

"We've done this for three or four years now," said Lt. Justin Rutchik. "Firefighters are the No. 1 donor for muscular dystrophy nationwide."

Country USA goers seemed happy about the larger, new site.

"The grounds are great," said Vicki Schroeder.

However, the Winnebago County Sheriff's Department say patrolling the grounds is more difficult because of the increased size.

By Thursday evening, 20 citations had been handed out, mostly for underage drinking, said Capt. John Matz of the Winnebago County Sheriff's Department.

"So far, all is well," Matz said.
