    The Greatest Love of All

Halifax native Brandy Callahan first performed in public at the age of two, perched on a church stool. Brandy sang all her life in church before forming a group at 18 that performed throughout Atlantic Canada, including the East Coast Music Awards. Brandy is friends with Canadian Idol runner-up Gary Beals and says they "come from similar backgrounds." A hairdresser in Toronto, Brandy hopes to study youth care and become "a famous singer."

In her spare time, Brandy likes to play the piano, write songs and poetry, and do arts and crafts. She loves to cook, swim and play "tackle football." She doesn't have a pet but wishes she owned a teacup poodle. Brandy says her friends would be surprised to find out that she "enjoys country music."

Brandy's favourite judge? "Sass Jordan," she says. "I think she has such a beautiful spirit for someone who is so successful."

    Name: Brandy Callahan

    Age: 24

    Occupation: Hairstylist

    Audition city: Toronto

When did you first start to sing?

When I was two years old, on a stool in church.

What is your favourite song to sing?

    Desiree's "Kissing You"

What CD would your friends be surprised you own?

    Total Country

Who in the music world do you think your style is most like?

A lot of people compare me to Alicia Keys, probably because I play and sing soulful music.

How would your friends describe you?

Probably as a bubbly, loveable and caring person.

Besides performing, what other talents do you have?

Playing piano, writing songs, poetry, art and crafts.

What are your goals in life?

To become a youth worker and someday a famous singer.

My definition of a Canadian Idol is:

Someone who will persevere and never give up on himself or herself.

    Who is your Canadian Idol?

Celine Dion because she is successful and not afraid of being herself.

Who in the Canadian Idol Top 11 did you identify with the most?

Gary Beals. He and I are good friends and we come from similar backgrounds.

What are your greatest strengths entering this competition?

My willingness to learn and grow. My voice.

What is your biggest fear regarding this competition?

That someone will videotape me sleeping.

If you don't make it on Canadian Idol, what will you do?

    Try again.

How would your life change if you were to become Canadian Idol?

I would be much more exposed and, I believe, more successful in my music career.

I actually like her too...I guess she's the closest thing to a diva that this competition has, but I like her in spite of that.

I was more impressed during the audtions than I was with her performance in the heat.

I don't think we have seen what she's fully capable of yet.
I hope she'll steer clear of the Celine and Whitney numbers.

Are you saying there isn't enough room on the stage for both of them?

Seriously, I don't see Brandy as any kind of pop idol. (and for the record, Rita McNeil never was and never will be a pop star either - she's a folk artist who fills a small niche in the Canadian music market)

I was disappointed by Brandy again last night.
I do think she has a good voice, but I also think she lacks a certain spark.
She doesn't hold my attention as a performer.

I had high hopes for her big voice and thought she would step up but it wasn't anything special for me. I would like to see her move on so I can see her true potential

She hasn't got the range of the other good singers. When she tries to hit the high notes she's flat or screeching. In the mid to low range she has a pleasant tone but every time I've seen her she throws some clunkers in there somewhere. And as you said, doesn't offer much as a performer. Plus, that testimonial at the end just was a total turn-off for me. Leave it for the revival service kid.
