I think Lucy is the host or co-host, but there are others, including Clay, who will be in the video.

Celebrity travel: Go away with Clay Aiken

Jae-Ha Kim | Tribune Media Service
    July 6, 2008

As a UNICEF ambassador, Clay Aiken gets to travel the world. The singer says one of his favorite countries has also been one of the most unlikely: Afghanistan. (Eric Ogden/Tribune Media Service)

Clay Aiken is in the news a lot these days. Besides getting good reviews for his performance in the Broadway musical "Spamalot," the former " American Idol" contestant is busy promoting his latest album "On My Way Here."

But the congenial redhead is keeping mum about the juicy tidbit that has the tabloids drooling: becoming a baby daddy with his good friend Jaymes Foster, who also executive produced his CD. Aiken is more vocal about his love of music and traveling. "There are no plans to tour at this time," says Aiken, 29. "I'd love to tour but there's just no time right now with all the other things going on. I think I've had just one day off in the past few months. It's crazy, but in a good way." A former teacher, Aiken was appointed UNICEF ambassador in 2004. Between touring and making field visits for UNICEF, Aiken has seen a good chunk of the world. But he says he will never forget the beauty and grace of Afghanistan and its people.

WHY AFGHANISTAN: Honestly, I prefer to go to places where no one else goes that haven't been ruined by the touristy thing. I don't know if I would've ever gone to Afghanistan if it hadn't been for my work with UNICEF, but it has been one of my favorite places I've ever been in my life. I stayed eight days there in the central highlands of the country in an area that was relatively fortunate when it came to Taliban attacks. Bamyan is in the central part of the mountains and it is just such a beautiful area.

FAVORITE MEMORIES: I remember going to vacation bible school as a kid and reading about how people lived in biblical times with earthen huts and traveling on horses. I remembered that when I walked around Bamyan. You walk around town and all these huts have satellite dishes on top of them and everyone has cell phones, but a lot of people still sleep on their floors. It's a fascinating combination of new and old. The people there were so nice and welcoming.

ROUGHING IT: We stayed in a bare bones room with no toilet or indoor plumbing. But the view was magnificent. The whole town was sitting in a valley on the side of the mountains. I think maybe one airplane flew in a few times a week to take people to Kabul. There was never any noise. It was so peaceful. The men worked in the fields, the women at home.

SIGHTSEEING: I enjoy seeing real life. I don't really care so much about going to see all the famous sites. They're very nice and I appreciate them when I do see them, but I don't go out of my way to check out all the monuments. I really like to get a feel for what it would be like to live in whatever country I'm in. I was able to do that a little bit in Afghanistan. People were just so real and natural. Nobody cared about who I was. Honestly, I don't think anyone knew who I was, but they were just so nice to me.

    THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT AFGHANISTAN:

FULL COUNTRY NAME: Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

WHERE IT IS: Slightly smaller in size than Texas, Afghanistan is located east of Iran and west of Pakistan in southern Asia.

    OFFICIAL LANGUAGE: Persian.

    CURRENCY: Afghani. $1US equals 49.95AFG.

TIME DIFFERENCE: GMT/UTC plus 4.5 (If it's noon in Chicago, then it's 9:30 p.m. in Kabul.)

Yes he was, Someone put it up on YouKnowWhere in a montage. It is listed under "Survival Project - UNICEF ( Grace of God - Clay Aiken )"

There were interview clips from his field visits to Uganda, Afghanistan, Indonesia and in studio. His visit to Somalia was too recent to make it into this report.

Second edition of Clay's field notes from the Unicef website, with two new pics.
He looks so happy. He loves this work, you can see it in his smile. And it looks like the kids love him, too.

    The Clay Baby Is Born

Gina SerpeFri Aug 8, 5:10 AM ET

Good news, Claymates: the Claynation has welcomed its first heir.

Clay Aiken and platonic baby-making partner Jaymes Foster welcomed their first child together in North Carolina this morning, the singer's rep confirmed to E! News.

The American Idol alum's mother turned proud grandma first announced the new arrival this morning.

Faye Aiken told Raleigh radio station WRAL that her son's longtime producer gave birth to son Parker Foster Aiken at 8:08 a.m. in an undisclosed location in the singer's home state.

Parker tipped the scales at 6 pounds, 2 ounces and measured in at 19 inches.

Faye Aiken also broke the news that the Aiken progeny did not inherit dad's fiery red mop, instead saying that he has dark hair and that, upon seeing him, the "Measure of a Man" singer was "smiling from ear to ear."

Per the elder Aiken, mom, dad and baby are all doing fine.

Foster's pregnancy was first confirmed by her brother, legendary music kingpin David Foster, back in May. He verified what everyone was thinking and announced that the "couple" conceived the child through artificial insemination.

Aiken, 29, and Jaymes Foster, whose age has been pegged somewhere around the 50-year mark, have been friends for years. She worked on several Aiken albums, including A Thousand Different Ways and On My Way Here.

Although theirs is not a romantic relationship, the duo plan to raise the baby together.

    Re: Clay Aiken

I'd suggest reading Clay's own blog about Parker Foster Aiken's birth -- which he posted before the news hit the media today. I can't post the link here (FORT rules) or re-post the blog itself (OFC rules), but Clay's official website is clayonline.com and the blog is currently available on "Clay's page." (It probably won't be available for viewing by nonmembers for too long.)

It seems that, even now that Clay and Jaymes themselves have both reported publicly about the birth of their son and about their plans, the predatory and factually careless tabloid and quasi-tabloid media* still insist on throwing in speculative details (e.g., about the private nature of the Clay's relationship with Jaymes) and sometimes making misleading statements (e.g., saying "artificial insemination" instead of "in vitro fertilization").

Do check out what Clay says about the birth of his son and about his family.

*Case in point: the Gina Serpe article Mantenna just posted. Serpe wastes words making sure the reader notes that Clay and Jaymes are a) not a couple, but a "couple," b) platonic baby-making partners, and (just in case you missed those points) c) in a relationship that is not a romantic one.
She also refers to Clay's "fiery red mop" (not only not his natural hair color but one I've never seen on him). Then she presumes to know that "everyone was thinking" the child was conceived by AI. Sheesh! She further states that Jaymes has been Clay's "longtime producer" and worked on several Aiken albums. Not sure she became involved as a producer for any of his albums before ATDW (2 years ago).
Anyway, I prefer to get the facts from more primary sources. I especially hate "news" reports that are basically just vehicles for further bashing.
