Got some Idol time on your hands?

They did. Days worth.

More than 48 hours after the first wannabe singing stars started lining up, hundreds got their shot at becoming the next American Idol.

Fox Television's open auditions at Miami Beach's Fontainebleau Hilton -- one of seven cattle calls around the country -- drew folks from as far as New York and Pennsylvania.

The beach walkway outside the hotel became a camping ground for contestants. A parcel of boardwalk was prime real estate. Folks pitched tents, brought their sleeping bags and unfolded the lawn chairs. At night, dreams of sweet record deals danced in their heads.

Yeah, right. Who could sleep at a time like this?
