I haven't figured out yet what people see in this guy. Maybe he'll grow on me. I felt that way about David Cooke and Adam Lambert at first, also.
I still can't decide if I like him or not. I really liked his audition and Hollywood performances but I haven't been so happy with his last two performances. He is cute, though.
I like Phillip and I think he is destined to win this. He is one of a kind, and he seems to completely forget everything else when he is performing. He has a good background story for this competition, no excessive hardships/secrets, no excessive richness, just a good guy from a solid family. Bit of a boy-next-door. And they are for some reason trying to play him down right now (as far as I can see). Is he too likeable? Why are they not letting him talk? It is other people answering on his behalf (after he sings). I suspect the powers that be are afraid that he is going to be liked too much too early, and are trying to downplay him a little. I also get this vibe that he is buddies with Heejun and there would be more good & highly entertaining material for us to see if the producers would allow it...
I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that the last FOUR winners have been WGWG (white guys with guitars). At a certain point, the lack of diversity can hurt the franchise.
That's what I've been thinking for some time Gutmutter. I have no favorite yet this season, but besides Scotty (i.e. country), the last 4 have been redux, someI like more than others. But still....
Well he didn't use a guitar tonight, and he was still my favorite of the night!
Yes! He really wailed. He had about six days to recover from the kidney stone surgery so thankfully that was enough time for him to truly perform...and without his guitar! There was instrumentation, so maybe he just needs to avoid singing acapella.
I still think he is good - cute looking, sexy voice, and laid back personality - all marketable elements and isn't that what AI is all about?
