Well bust my britches Haley made Top 3!!!

She has a legitimate shot now at winning it all with James out --- beating Scotty & his BIG voting machine.

She'll need the judge's support ... she'll need correct song choices ... she'll need Scotty to slip into "Randy Travis" like singing style, which can look bland next to Haley wailing ... and she needs to drop the growl vocal style.

If she sings it pure, crystal clear, razor sharp ... a la Carrie Underwood, she could BE IN IT TO WIN IT!!!!!!!!

Haley was voted into the Top 13 and slowly over the last couple of weeks she has really delivered.

How many times have we seen early favorites or contestants who were supposed to win this show go out early because they peeked too soon? This happens all the time.

For Haley to have made it this far is an amazing accomplishment and she deserves to be in the Top 3. Just as much as Scotty and Lauren deserve to be there too.

Two differing musings on the Haley story:

    1. In terms of her slow climb toward the top, that is exactly what happened in season #1. Simon admits that he didn't remember Kelly at all from the auditions or from Hollywood week. The judges were actively pimping Tamyra and Justin. About half the way through the top ten, Kelly became a threat -- COOL BEANS! -- and no one could stop her. It happens!!

    However....

    2. While the Idol producers want ratings to be the highest possible, they do NOT want a winner who will not represent their "machine" in a glowing and positive light. Haley is too much of a entitled brat for them to let her win. Imagine Haley, if she won, going on talk shows and discussing her criticisms from Randy, JLo and Jimmy! She is too pig-headed to be a professional and not roll her eyes or speak ill of the Idol clan. She would gloat that she always knew better than any of those stupid judges. In my humble opinion, the Idol machine would not be willing to take a chance on her, no matter how well she sang.

Obviously, there is a dichotomy between both of my points and we will not know for sure for two more weeks, but Idol is not going to set themselves up to knowingly be made to look foolish.

Right now, I think most of that is moot. As true as that may be, and as spectactular as Haley can sing the right songs for her, at this point I just don't think those tweener and teener girls are going to let Haley beat Scotty out of first place.

I agree with you, Bloomers, about the young girls loving Scotty. Whether he "wins" Idol or not, he will no doubt emerge the true winner in all of this. To me, he has been the obvious moneymaker since day one. I am not a country music fan, but Scotty is a wholesome, charming and MARKETABLE young man. I'd love to have him in each one of my choruses at school!!

The guy that writes the Idol blog over on USA Today almost every week puts Haley's recorded versions at the very top of the list & this is a guy that isn't, or at least wasn't a Haley fan whatsoever. This week he had glowing reviews of both of her songs.

I wanted to post this information for those of you who might want a chance to see Haley tomorrow if you live near her hometown:

'American Idol' Finalist Haley Reinhart: Excited for Arlington Park Homecoming Performance

Chicago - “American Idol” finalist Haley Reinhart joined FOX Chicago’s Bill Zwecker live, in the studio to talk about her upcoming homecoming performance at Arlington Park on Saturday .

She also sang Cole Porter's "Night and Day" as our newscast came to a close.

Bluesy, soulful Reinhart has made it to the Top 3, competing against 16-year-old Lauren Alaina and country crooner Scotty McCreery, to be America’s next biggest singing sensation.

Reinhart spoke about what life is like, being on “Idol,” and how she’s spending her trip home.

The 2009 Wheeling High School grad also answered some viewers’ questions they posted on FOX Chicago’s Facebook and Twitter pages.

Twelve thousand free tickets were made available exclusively online on the Arlington Park website on Thursday. Doors to the park open to ticketholders at 11:15 a.m. Reinhart’s performance is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.

    Haley's Hometown Schedule:

8:45 a.m. appearance at an AT&T store in Deer Park
4:30 p.m. parade in Wheeling, for "Haley Reinhart Day"
6:30 p.m. performance at Arlington Park

Bonus video of her singing at the end of this interview today on her local Fox station:

Haley either takes my breath away or it is just well, "She has a good voice."
However, the first time I noticed her was when she did the yodeling song, and I immediately sat up and took notice of what she was capable of doing with her voice.

Now there is a difference between what she is capable of doing - and she can do some tremendous things with her voice and just sounding fabulous all the time when she sings.

Lauren probably has the straight better voice just singing, but Lauren hasn't shown that she can do the kinds of things that Haley can do with her voice.

Again, I say with Haley it HAS to be about song choice more than with anybody than I have ever seen or heard, and that includes my own daughter who sings professionally, and she shines much more on some songs than others.

It is imperative that Haley's songs are chosen carefully for the WOW factor both in the rest of this competition and for her career in general.

I am not really a fan of Haley's singing (too Cabaret, too fake growly), but her personality has been just fine. She is enthusiastic and cares deeply about entertaining the audience. And she has responded with appropriate skepticism to the judges' bad advice and criticism. At any rate, if she did win, there is no evidence that she would say she "always knew better than any of those stupid judges." She has always spoken tactfully on the show.

"Tons of surprises, but it wouldn't be 'American Idol' without it, would it?" Cowell told MTV News. "At the end of the day, I could go out and find 12 great singers, but that's kind of boring. The fact that there's people there who shouldn't be there makes it 'American Idol.' "
