Not a big fan of the female voice. Might be just the way I hear things, but it usually comes off sounding squeaky, strained and irritating to me.
There are rare exceptions and Naima might just be one of them. Looking forward to hearing more.

I like her sense of culture and her story. I can't remember her singing well. I look forward to hearing her tonight. I just hope her style will translate well. Afrocentrism is not very popular in the U.S. so I think she will get lost in translation.

I caught this show last night. This young lady can sing but my first impression of her was Carmen Miranda.
Very little about her that I like. Based on how she handled herself this past week (getting to top 13) I predict the pressure will be too much for her and she'll crack. It will be interesting to see how Iovine's mentoring "shapes" her... or doesn't.
Personally I find these humane mouse traps rather ineffective. Better to lay down some glue and when you hear the critter scream you take a shovel to his head.
I think this is a good point. It seemed really tough for her. I think a lot of the other "eliminated idols" handled it similarly. Clint was a mess and Jovanny seemed shaky to me. Even the ever confident Ashton was falling apart a little. Heck! James was hysterical when Stefano was singing. Maybe it was just the intense atmosphere that caused her to react that way. Maybe she will be fine on Wednesdays an crying her eyes out every Thursday. That's something to look out for.

RLM, yeah it will be interesting to see how (if?) Naima can handle it.
You're right, a lot of the contestants were overly-emotional. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not at all saying I'd be all cool-calm-and-collected... HOWEVER... this is a lot more than a contest to pick the best singer (come on, we all know this, right?). A lot of these contestants do much better in NOT winning (hello? Chris Daughtry!) than in winning (Lee DeWyze, anyone?) and how you handle yourself when eliminated speaks volumes. A lot can be gained from the exposure![]()
