5/25 Season Finale Part 1 *Spoilers*

Thanks for the recap TopCatDC. Of all nights for this to happen, our digital converter box crapped out just as Crystal was finishing her first song, and we didn't get it back until just before Crystal sang her last song. At least I got to hear my girl Crystal on two songs, even if I missed the comments on the first one.

The Boxer and Everybody hurts were both really weak. Bobby McGee was odd for me and Black Velvet was a shrieking mess! I cannot wait for tomorrow when this competition ends! On to season 10!

Ya... bah. Glad it's almost over. I don't know that we'll watch next year without Simon being there, but this has been a lackluster year and I feel that there was a guy in a leather jacket wearing water skis circling all year. Oh well. All good thing must come to an end.

The fix is in. Lee gets a song everyone knows. Crystal gets one nobody knows. Patty Griffin vs. U2? Come. On.

Well part of the problem is that Crystal's genre is not current. So a song that is "right" for her will be a song that nobody has heard of.

Crystal, second song. El-Stinko. She tried to save it with some long, high notes, but as a Canadian who knew that song WAY before it ever hit the States done by Alannah Myles, that was just awful. It was like they tried to make it a hard rock song. There was no more soul. Go back and listen to the original if you don't agree. Oh, and she was so physically unbalanced at the start that I thought she might fall down the stairs. Yikes. She's not impressing me tonight at all.

Joking aside, yes. The trip down the stairs was pretty precarious. Not that I think that's a valid criticism of her as a SINGER. It's just that the staging of the song was stupid.

True, but they gave Tim a bunch of flack for sliding across the stage. The song was horrific, even without the high elevation wobble.

But I think it wasn't about the talent. Honestly, with only one or two exceptions, the talent wasn't historically bad this season. Yes, Crystal haters--she IS a good performer, even if she's arrogant, and "a damn dirty hippy", and talks back, and just like all these people occasionally sings out of tune. And Lee? He's nothing special... but he's certainly no worse than Kris Allen (who always bored me to tears). Even Michael Lynche, as over the top as he could be, wasn't bad. Casey was pretty lackluster, but really that's not a bad average. Really, you have to go back all the way to Aaron Kelly to get someone who's presence on the show was an outright joke. Given that in the past people like Jasmine Trias, Scott Savol, John Stevens, Carmen Rasmusen, Kevin Covais, etc. all got pretty far, having an Aaron Kelly that late in the game isn't so new.

Its the whole show that was the problem, not the current talent. The formula is played out. Nobody freaking cares. A certain amount of people are watching now, half bored out of their skulls, just WAITING for Glee to come on.

Plus, Simon was already mentally headed for the door, Randy was a bigger ass than ever, Ellen was distracting and annoying, Kara was crazier than Paula 2 bottles of Schnapps into a binge. It was a mess, and IdiotCrest totally has no presence or control over the show (not that he ever did).

Ok, Crystals last song was great. She sounded fabulous. However, she butchered Black Velvet. It's one of my favorite songs and I'm pretty sure my ears were starting to bleed. Ouch. Lee didn't step it up like he should have, but I could see his nerves. Poor boy was sweating bullets. I'm still rooting for him to win, though. I just don't see how they will market Crystal.
