EW has learned that American Idol’s Top 12 contestants will perform the music of the Rolling Stones next week. During an ad break at the top 8 guys performance show, Ryan Seacrest taped a radio promotion in which he mentioned that the first week for the 12 Idol finalists will feature songs by the iconic British rock group. I'd love to hear Crystal do Beast of Burden. I hope Siobhan stays far away from Wild Horses. It's already been done by another Simon Cowell protogé .

I'm not a big RS fan, but I do like some of their songs. However, looking at a list of their songs, it looks like many of them would not work out well for somebody to showcase their vocals. The note ranges are pretty tight in quite a few - such as "Shattered."

The best songs for some to do, IMO, are:

Gimme Shelter
Miss You (maybe)
You Can't Always Get What You Want - I think this might be a good one to change up a bit.

The “Teen Idols” theme is so hard. There are some that are or were, without question, best known as teen idols. The first person I think of is Donny Osmond, and others from the 70s such as David and Shawn Cassidy and Andy Gibb. Currently you have The Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus. But I was looking at an entry in wikipedia, and they say that The Beatles and The Rolling Stones were thought of as teen idols early in their careers, and I can see that. Elvis was also. So are their catalogs included in what can be chosen? Or just during the time that they were considered teen idols?

BTW, that same wikipedia entry states that Frank Sinatra was probably considered the first teen idol.

I'm thinking it'll be geared more toward the old school teen idols...the Bobby Darin era...then moving into the 1960s-1970s teen icons David Cassidy, Leif Garrett, ect. I hope they stay away from more current teen stars...please no boy-band songs!

Some of those Monkees songs were really good (yes, I was in love with Davy Jones.....). They were written by some of the best song writers in the 60's.
