I was saddened by the fact that they were going to bring Kara back. I really don't like the way she speaks to the camera and ab-sol-lute-ly makes a mockery of the judging. Now they are not bringing Paula back. What are they thinking? Big mistake!!

I'm still hoping that Paula will come back at the last minute because the producers will realize the mistake they made.
If she doesn't, I don't think I will bother watching. The prospect of watching Victoria Beckham on my screen for 1 or 2 episodes is enough to deter me.

LOS ANGELES — Ellen DeGeneres is dancing her way onto "American Idol," replacing Paula Abdul as the show's fourth judge. In a Wednesday release from Fox and the show's producers, DeGeneres described herself as a longtime fan of the hit singing contest.

Abdul, who announced she was quitting the show amid a contract dispute, had been replaced by a succession of guest judges as "American Idol" started next season's auditions.

DeGeneres, host of a daytime talk show, wasn't among them. She will join Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi for the ninth season starting in January.

What I like about this is that it completely changes the judging dynamic. This will be a different show. And she can artfully and intelligently deflate Simon. Good move.

I may actually watch next season without fast forwarding through the judges comments, she knows nothing about music but most of the audience dont either and yet they are the ones doing the choosing, so i think it is great

I hesitate to say that Ellen knows nothing about music. Ellen loves music and has loved American Idol. She's made it a point to have the contestants on her show and is always supportive and encouraging.

Paula had been in the industry but I can't say that she ever brought anything skilled and intelligent to the table. We'll get some humor and smarts from Ellen. I'm so excited!!!
