I can't figure why he returned to the same type of song that got him criticism when he did the Coldplay song. If it wasn't good for him then, nothing is going to change. He also fell into the "I love that song" pit.

I sort of got a strange vibe from him back in the preliminary rounds when the judges told Von not to wear a hat when they were invited back for the wild card. Matt comes in a hat and scarf...looking just strange in the heat of the stage lights. "Don't wear a hat, Von." HMMMM...but they don't mean me...so I 'll wear one. Just too strange.

I didn't understand why he received so much critique from the judges. He had a shaky start but I think he did good job with that song and showed us that he's not just a R&B-singer and he can sing other genres too, and do it well. Actually I never really liked that song and I think Matt's studio version is better than the original. I think the judges (especially Kara) are putting the contestants in such a small and tight boxes, they can't do anything outside their genre without getting critiziced (Matt should always do only R&B, Danny should always sing only power notes etc.) I hate when they do that! It wasn't Matt's best performance but I think he did good job and did not deserve all the critique he got.
