Thanks, Aotabass, for your history on Adam. It's always great to get first-hand reports of any performer, even from high school. I believe Adam is a very sincere guy. Any man who publically would give props to my idol Norman Gentle is a good dude in my book. But I just haven't seen the sincerity come through in Adam's performances yet. A lot of times, singers with huge voices and range like Adam rely on their vocal power for performing while short-changing their artistic emotional expressiveness. Hopefully, he'll have time to develop it on AI.

"Tons of surprises, but it wouldn't be 'American Idol' without it, would it?" Cowell told MTV News. "At the end of the day, I could go out and find 12 great singers, but that's kind of boring. The fact that there's people there who shouldn't be there makes it 'American Idol.' "
I'm sick of people obsessing over him too astro. I find him incredibly annoying and do not find him entertaining at all. I don't know about all the sincerity crap, I just know I don't like him and there's something about him (can't fully put my finger on it) that rubs me the wrong way. I will have to disagree with you though on one thing. He actually CAN sing. The problem with last week is that he DIDN'T sing. He screamed the lyrics and jumped around the stage like a JACKA$$. But during the Hollywood episodes he did show that he actually can sing and has a good voice. I just wish he would go back to performances like he did when he sang Cher. I was actually semi rooting for him at that point.Originally Posted by astrotronix;3383899;

I think his performance was just horrible. When the song started, I was listening "Hmm, this could be quite good" but then he just went completely over the top and really ruined that great song. He just changed the melody too much and tried to do too much with it. He has all the tools to be really good but I think he tries too much and oversings every song he's singing.
His Ring of Fire was fantastic !!! Better than Dilana.
This guys sucks so much and won't admit it. I hate his smug attitude, and hope to see him eliminated and put in his place sometime in the near future. What a tool.
He RUINED Ring of Fire even more than he F-ed up Satisfaction. Randy Travis should've laid country smackdown on him, but alas, Adam is not worth his time.
I personally thought his performance last night sucked. He is so over the top with his theater and mugging for the camera. Oh lets not forget the boarderline porn dancing.
I can only please one person a day, today is not your day and tomorrow doesn't look good either
It's time for this guy to pack up. Too many others in this competition who are way above and beyond his singing skills.

I'm very conflicted about this guy. I am a HUGE musical theater fan (hence my screenname) and I would absolutely LOVE him on stage in a musical theater performance. He would kick some major stage butt with the likes of Adam Pascal, Idina Menzel, Heather Headley, and Cheyenne Jackson.
But I absolutely HATE him in this format. Hate him. There is a reason why many/most highly successful Broadway actors don't hit it big in music.. their talent just isn't mainstream. And mainstream is exactly what American Idol is all about, and that is the type of talent that the producers are allegedly looking for.
Adam creeped me out last night. He does have a fabulous voice... but the showmanship is just way over the top. I hated last night's antics (still can't shake the "it burrrrrrrrrrrrns... it BURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRNS" atrocity... that will be in my mocking vernacular for years, I'd imagine.) If he wants to succeed in this format he's going to have to dial it back more than just a few notches and hide his extensive theater training. I am surprised there aren't more Freddie Mercury comparisons going on when it comes to Adam. Not that I'd necessarily be all over that comparison... but it still seems more logical than some of the others being made.![]()
Never let the things you want make you forget about the things you have.
I guess you either love him or hate him and I'm on the love side of this equation.
