What musical artist(s) do you want to see "coach" on Idol?

Here are some people that would never be asked:
To add a bit of quirkiness, why not the Roches? Those girls can sing, and can also fly in the face of doing things according to accepted standards. Alison Kraus and Vince Gill also come to mind as people who would never be asked, but would probably be able to give a lot of guidance and sage advice on singing and performing.

I beg to differ. I think Lulu's coaching for last season's (Season 6) British Invasion week, for the girls, was EXCELLENT. She was really passionate about it and you could tell it really helped the girls.

I thought both Lulu and whoever did the coaching for the guys during that week were both very good too. The one advantage I think that Barry Manilow has over every other coach/mentor is his behind-the-microphone experience. The only other person with such a background they brought over was David Foster, and he wasn't nearly as effective.

It was Peter Noone.

I think some of the past judges could make good mentors too- Kenny Loggins, Gene Simmons and Marc McGrath were all great (IMO)

I still stand by Johnny Reznik being on the show.. he was great on NGAB, and he really does have insight to starting with nothing and all of a sudden being in the worlds eye.

I love the thought of Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood... or Vince Gill and Amy Grant coming in to mentor. Having seen both of those couples around, I don't know that it's that impossible of a possibility as all four are quite charitable.

I'd love to see someone flamboyant and fun... someone like Ted Nugent would be crazy.

Kid Rock would be fun.... maybe he could bring out the rocker in Robbie.

Maybe they could bring in someone like New Kids on the Block (who wants to pimp their new comeback) to help with the group sings.

That definitely DOES qualify as a "fantasy pick", since John railed against the show being racist a few years back. Or more exactly, the American public's voting (that was back during Idol 3).

Of course there was an Elton John song theme week that year.

While John didn't pick on the producers themselves, they're probably going to be cautious about ever involving him directly.

I saw a clip of Denis DeYoung from when he appeard on Canadian Idol and thought it'd be cool to have him on as a mentor. I think he fits a good singer/songwriter mold even if Styx weren't the theme (Mr. Roboto group song anyone?)
