I agree with the Streisand/Drescher comparisons. Plus, this show is not only about singing, it's also about EXPOSURE. I can see her as being an Actress that also happens to sing well. So, if she doesn't become the American Idol, as least she may parlay this experience into an acting career.

Yes, she is over the top, but a good acting coach and agency could help her hoan her talents into something more lucrative. She is still young enough to learn how to tone it down.

I wish her all the luck in the world.

I dont really like Mikaylah at all. I mean, she HAD a good voice, but it has gone down. She hasnt been doing her best. And I know this is stupid to say, but I dont like her personality. I mean, its good that she is always happy, but shes just TOO happy :rolleyes. I just gets so irritating. I just cant stand her anymore. I really dont see how she has gotten this far.

Aside from that, I think she's a decent singer, I think she has star potential as well, reminds me of a young Streisand.
When I first saw her in the auditions, I thought that, too - incredibly confident for a 16 year-old. And I also posted (on another board) that she reminded me so much of Barbra Streisand (attitude, mannerisms, not vocals) when she first started out (only a bit younger - Barbra burst on the scene at 19 or 20). But when I saw her crying and looking terrified, while Paula was torturing her group as to whether they'd move on to Hollywood or not, that "superconfident" bubble was burst. I saw a vulnerable teenager.

I was rooting for her, based on her earlier auditions, but this week she really seemed nervous to me and seemed to be overcompensating by 'doing' Streisand (or Fran Drescher). And her vocals weren't good enough to make up for that. She needs to get some new gag lines or drop the in-yo-face attempts at snark. A little of that goes a looonng way.

I'd like to see her stick around at least a couple more weeks, to see if she can grow with the experience and the coaching from Byrd, Orland, etc., and judge feedback. I hope she can. She's distinctive and I think has lots of potential.
But this is AI, not impressionist night at Comedy Central. Another performance like last night and I'll be hoping she gets to go back to high school till she grows up a little.

I like Mikalah. I find her refreshing. But, I think she needs to step it up a little bit. She was, in my opinion, better than Melinda and Janay that night, and I even liked her better than Aloha, who I couldn't stand.

Yeah. It was funny. But when I first heard it, I was confused. I also liked when she jumped out of her seat when Ryan said she was safe.

She still bugs me. But I'm rooting for her for some reason. I hope she does better next week.

If nothing else, I hope she gets discovered for Broadway musicals or maybe acting? I think she does have a lot of natural talent for such a young age.

I agree Cottoncandy! She has THAT something that makes people talk about her. Love her or hate her..I think she will succeed in an entertainment job.

She's very dramatic. Broadway would be good to her, I think.

any1 think it was a mistake that she dyed her hair all black???
she defn looked better with the blonde and red streaks, and this new look she was sporting made her look really really old, and reminded me way too much of Fran Drescher....

She's starting to be a little annoying to me, but let's see what she's like next week...

    Okay.

So here it is. All out on the line.

I hated Mikalah Gordon. She even sang one of my favorite songs on the first night (Young Hearts....) but I think she sounded like she was just shouting it at first. During the song, however, I realized that she in fact could actually sing. I was pretty astonished, the last note at the end was decent.

So I'm so torn. I'm not sure if she can sing well, or if she gets lucky with all her shouting.

As a potential fan, I have to be honest about her over-the-top personality. I understand that she is young, and a fun girl. But even the fans here would have to secretly want her to tone it down a bit. I understand that she is having an amazing time, as she should be. But I don't think it's gonna help her chances.

I am eagerly awaiting her next performance.
