That was pretty much my point, though. Why would you go homeless if you didn't have to? What is so awesome about that? It doesn't help anyone. If anything, I think she should leave panhandling to those who really need the money - people will usually only give so much, and if she already has a decent homelife, what's the point of simulating anything else? I mean, sure, maybe I'm just really close-minded. If you can explain the good of it to me, I will gladly reconsider my opinion.

Also, if you don't mind, could you tell me what train hopping is?

Re: Lauren - Cycle 10

i think ... one of her reason of being homeless purposely is,

her arts ..

if i look at it, i never see something like those (people in her art) around me, because i'm not homeless ... yes i can,
but being homeless maybe more broad...
plus, i think, she kinda person who love to try anything she could possibly do, include modelling and being homeless ..

well, that just random thought .. IDK ..

Re: Lauren - Cycle 10

I definitely think you should try different things and not limit yourself. I guess I just also think you should be as altruistic as possible and try to give as much back as you can. Maybe volunteering at a homeless shelter wouldn't put Lauren in the situation of being homeless, but she would be around homeless people, be able to observe them, and actually be able to help. Pretending to be homeless - which I think it kind of is when you actually do have a home - strikes me as almost making a mockery out of a very serious situation, and it definitely does not make anything better for the young people who don't actually have a home to return to, should they want to. Given that, it seems like a very different thing to do than applying for a modeling competition.

Of course, I have no real idea what Lauren's intentions were and what she did or has done! I'm not exactly trying to judge her, or say she's a bad person, because I'm sure she's not at all, although I do think she seems a little immature. If someone sat down with Lauren and actually talked about her homelessness at length - which, of course, is not going to be the main focus of any of the interviewers since that's not what ANTM is about - I'm sure her intentions would be made clearer, and there wouldn't be any dispute as such. I'm also just posting random thoughts; I don't mean to offend her fans.

Yeah, same here. I'm downloading Sims 2 stuff and refreshing FORT's main page.

And I'm glad you didn't take offense! I tend to come off as abrasive, so I'm preemptively sorry about that.

Re: Lauren - Cycle 10

i dunno about you guys.. but homeless whether its by choice is still being homeless there is no pretending when your dumpster diving or riding the rails. You don't know where your next meal is or your next bath.. or if your gunna survive the night One of laurens friends lost their legs one night...your in in it for the long haul. there's no quick escape route to a warm bed or to home (unless of course you got friends throught the country. I respect lauren for this. she took the road less taken... one we often overlook.
Lauren does participate in food not bombs incase your interested. Soo yeah she does give back and she has lived it... Incase any of you don't know. I've also heard she made donations towards a needle exchange with the procedes with some of her artwork.

Food Not Bombs is an all-volunteer automous global movement that shares free vegetarian meals as a protest to war and poverty. Each chapter collects surplus food that would otherwise go to waste from grocery stores, bakeries and markets, sometimes incorporating dumpster diving, then prepares community meals which are served for free to anyone who is hungry. The central beliefs of the group are:
If governments and corporations around the world spent as much time and energy on feeding people as they do on war, no one would go hungry.
There is enough food in the world to feed everyone, but so much of it goes to waste needlessly, as a direct result of capitalism and militarism.
Vegan food is both healthy and nonviolent.
Food Not Bombs works to call attention to poverty and homelessness in society by sharing food in public places and facilitating gatherings of poor, homeless and other disenfranchised people. There are three tenets to the Food Not Bombs philosophy:
Decision making by consensus
Nonviolence
Vegetarianism

lauren strikes me as the type of person to do everything against the norm. She went homeless. probablly to take the hard road that's not usually taken so she can appreciate life more and respect what it is to have a meal everyday ...but the more i think about it.... does anyone remember that people interview before the show? about laurne coming from an abusive childhood? That's a far cry from a great homelife? I think laurens response in that interview was just a way to avvoid getting into talking about why she actually was homeless. Maybe lauren found it as an escape? maybe lauren just did'nt want to get into it. Maybe that side of her is very secret. I respect her for not wanting a sob story. I realized this... lauren is originally from jersey? so i'm thinking she ran away to nyc. theres tons of punks hanging out near tompkins square panhandling. . but lauren also traveled. ...
I dont really understand why ya'll are going tit for tat on whther she was homeless or homeless by choice no matter what way you look at it.. she still was homeless... and abusive childhood? i dont think she had a loving home to go back to.

Re: Lauren - Cycle 10

Food Not Bombs sounds like an excellent cooperation. I've never heard of an organization so actively promoting vegetarianism (while still being a source of food for homeless people) but I think it's a great idea, and I wish there were more like them. I also think it's great that Lauren worked for them. That gives Lauren, what? 500 points in my book? Really, I think that's really, really awesome.

She said she had a loving home, and Jersey isn't that far from New York City, so it's not as though her family was in California and she ran away to NYC - she could have still gone home pretty easily if she felt like it. What I think is basically this: if you have a loving home, stay in it. Instead of leaving a place where people are good for you, where you have food and a bed to sleep in, &c, try to help people who don't have the choice to not be homeless.

I can't respect people for doing things against the norm just for the sake of being a rebel, although I do want to maintain that I respect Lauren very much for working for Food Not Bombs. Again, I don't think she's a bad person at all - I just think she seems a little immature, and I think maybe she does want a sob story.

Re: Lauren - Cycle 10

Since Lauren left the show I kind of lost interest to it. I don't know why... May be it is not because of Lauren. I think her elimination made me rethink my connection to the show. It's all TV. Just it. And now I believe it has too many cycles. Good things cannot last forever. They either finish or get worse. I want ANTM to stop at some decent level.
But I'm still happy Lauren was there. She is a stunning model and a great person. And I enjoyed her interviews a lot!
