Re: Jenah - Cycle 9

CBS is having it's share of problems with child labor laws and parents because of Kid Nation and Tyra doesn't need the headache. Jenah has potential, she's hyped up about being on Top Model and is eager to be a model ( so far) which is a good thing.

I would say 18-23 should be the limit, I think that thats a fair age-limit to start a modeling career, I think the show needs to be stricter on age, you're never too young to model but you can be too old and 23 should be the limit. Sixteeen year olds on the show wouldn't bother me, they would just need stricter monitoring and dicipline.

Re: Jenah - Cycle 9

Umm...If ANTM REALLY wanted to be a Fashion Credible show, they would do that because designers LIKE having YOUNG FRESH faces, 18-27 is WAY too old to start!

And

1) Brooke was still in high school when she was on Cycle 7!

2) If Australia complied with their laws and have young girls on their show (and COUNTLESS other NTMs), then why not AMERICA!?!

Re: Jenah - Cycle 9

Brooke was 18. In America we have strict child labor laws. Anybody under 18 is required to take some time during the day to take classes or be in school in addition to being on the show. Also their parents and/or guardians would have to accompany the underage models. Top Model photoshoots and the deliberations have been know to last hours upon hours at a time. The child labor laws would compromise the timing of both of those two things. Tyra doesn't need the hassle. Jenah's age (18) should be the perfect minimum age for the show.

I graduated from high school when I was 15. I would have loved to be able to make my own decisions. Law-aside.

Re: Jenah - Cycle 9

I don't know enough about Australia's child labor laws, so I can only speak from what I know about American laws. Everything Bucwild mentioned is totally legitimate--for example, plays featuring underage actors are not allowed to run every day during the week. That violates those laws.
To reiterate, Brooke was 18 when she appeared. Regardless of whether or not she finished High School, she was a legal adult. That decision was out of her parent's hands.
And I personally don't care if it's more "fashion credible", it's wrong to have high school students working in the fashion industry as anorexic coathangers.

Re: Jenah - Cycle 9

Excuse me, I have many friends who are in fashion who started when they were THIRTEEN, and were STILL students.

Child labor laws are still met with with designers, photographers, etc., I'm sure of it.

But we are off topic. Jenah is a rare FRESH faced 18 year old. Usually they look like FHM models or strippers, but she is great.

Re: Jenah - Cycle 9

Also, if they do a nude shoot with girls under a certain age, that's considered child pornography
I just think keeping the age limit at 18 just gives them that much less crap to deal with
And plus, in the past couple seasons, they have rarely cast girls older than 22, so I'm really fine with it right now

I think the shoots are the main problem too, you have to think about how a conservative country like the US would react, they would be offended. 18-22 years old would be a fine limit since they are the most reasonable ages to start a career.
