Saleisha - Cycle 9

I haven't read a 17 mag since I was 15 or so years old. That was damn near 12 years ago. I guess I am not the target demo for this show. But my gen. and up is where the money is, so Ty should wake up and smell the Ben Gay.

BTW, I bought that one so I could see Lisa and others in the Akademiks (sp) ad. She is also in the jewlery section "Bling for Less" with Bianca and Saleisha and Saleisha looks terrible. Lisa and even Bianca out do her by miles.

They showed the shots each of them took during the episode. Bianca actually looked amazing, it's a shame she didn't take any pictures like that on the show. I didn't think Lisa's shot was her best, but damn, she sure as hell outshined Saleisha, who gave a really unflattering angle, which made her cheeks and nose look huge and fat. I think it is excellent proof of her inability to model, as anyone with half an idea of how photography works would know that you have to face the light in order not to screw yourself up so badly. The fact that they couldn't find a better shot just shows how not fantastic she is.

Wow how the heck can she be fat? Can you not see how bony her shoulder is? Even the bones were sticking out of her lower neck area. I think her bones are a little heavy, not fat.

Whether she is a good model or bad is subjective. One can say how amazing she is all day everyday, but it's not going to persuade another person's. I myself don't think she is even a model, but it's my opinion and it's not going to change.

If she does receive high fashion work from the professionals then I guess she can be considered a good model. Until that day far far FAR away, it's all subjective.

Also, on Chantal, I'm sorry but while she has a nice body, her face ruins the whole thing. Her head is TINY and her features are so big, it is not cute. Plus she has a lazy eye. Her tiny head mixed with no intelligence mixed with giant facial features mixed with no chin mixed with her crap pictures = ELIMINATED EARLY. Looking at her and Saleisha in the finale, it was pretty humorous because Chantal has absolutely NO ROOM on her face for any of her features and that is not a model. You can disagree with me all you want but the next time you watch the show, maybe you can notice it even if you don't want to admit it.

Also, this fake scandal won't harm her career at all. If anything, it will just make it bigger. Kate Moss (coke), Vanessa Hudgens (nude pics), Paris Hilton (drugs, porn, racist remarks, all around total douchbaggery), etc. helped their careers, not tarnish them. It draws attention to whoever hires them, and people who have a hard time getting attention ESPECIALLY like them. Having a girl in a scandal (because scandaleisha girls always draw the most attention) is a very attractive thing to a LOT of clients. And it's not like Saleisha won't show up on set, she is obviously very fun and exciting to work with. The scandal will mean nothing to anyone when she is working for them hard and bringing them a lot of attention and business.

Amateurs can get paid, but they do not get paid much or often. It depends on what it is. I do not believe, however, that appearing on a regional/national ad would allow for amateurs - unless they had a SAG extra card or something along those lines (I say the extras card because apparently Sal didn't speak in this ad).

My opinion only, I think overall Chantal had the better portfolio for the very reasons you said were faults. (For the record here, I will say that I do think there were some shots of Chantal's - i.e. the baby's breath, video, first CG, that were poor) Saleisha had some potential shots, but there are a couple of really good ones she had that were I feel harmed a bit by minor details. Examples - the Great Wall, I loved the jumping and height, but she's looking at the camera, which ruins the effect of her about to scale the wall. If I were going through this portfolio wanting to see a terrific action shot that proves she should be in the ad, I would probably turn her down for that reason. I would have doubt that she could successfully look as though she's fighting something instead of just looking pretty - even if that wasn't her intent. The rock climbing wall had a similar problem - I liked the daringness of the body language, but her mouth has an odd shape to it that harmed the pic. I think the only one of hers I liked without a critique to it was the dragon and lion dancing one.

But, regardless, both had excellent shots, and both had what you'd say crappy shots. Thing they have to do is winnow out the bad and put in new good ones. Afterall, it's like a resume/portfolio for any job - you have to constantly improve on it in order for it to be the best you have for your possible boss (the ad/runway people).

I do have to say, however, I respectfully disagree that this scandal will help Saleisha. Also, the girls you mention also are considered troublemakers and other names that I feel I'd be bleeped out for. I do not see Saleisha being any of those girls as far as the scandals go, and feel the case you made is harmed for that reason.

That said, the girls you mention also had been in the industry for some time and scandal does harm them. Hilton's show "Surreal Life" I haven't seen since her jail stay I know for sure, and (different event, same issue) there are baseball players who are now forever tarnished because of the steriod list, even if they didn't use them and can prove it. Here, Saleisha is not well-known, and yes, there will be agencies that will go "Hmm... did she win for her talent or was it because Tyra wanted her to win?" So, while it can put her name out, it can harm her because if I were her, I would want them to see I won on my own two feet. This scandal puts that in question.

Overall, I feel sorry for her because like the ballplayers, the scandal does add a weight overall on what she has to overthrow to succeed. Let's face it, all the models in the competition who have chosen to continue (which, BTW, no matter how great they may be, I feel they have the right to model/not model if they want to, as we don't live their lives) have had to overcome criticism they were on ANTM. Saleisha now has to deal with that controversy stigma - whether proven or not. How she does it is to have a strong portfolio, which she needs to improve on a bit from the show's one, needs to be careful of her posturing (as some of the candids are unflattering), and prove that she earned her win and, based on her detractors, it wasn't handed to her.
