I was wondering why no one pointed that out. It's a paradox.

That editorial is wonderfully random. Love it. And Eugenia really reminds me of Ann in it.

I think its a prime example of what an editorial should be. I just don't get the title. A woman isn't complete without a robot I guess...

I Liyah. Her images are amazing. Anyway I don't like Natalia but the i-D cover is the bomb!

I didn't say they were inversely related, merely that if being a "blank slate" is a model's one and only selling point, then I wouldn't find her so appealing.

-ANTM-, that editorial is whack! Stepford Wives meets retro robots? (Pssst....is that C3P0 I spy?)

Whom else beside Gemma, Lovely_Tina? I often feel seriously in the dark about fashion, too. It's so big, but I think if you know Gemma, you know more than 98% of America.

Here are two random pictures of sexy Erin. I think she's almost a "blank slate," but I don't understand which models you're talking about, nausicaa, as having that as an only selling point...

Erin's also well spoken and has great personal style. I her.

I love these treads, and seeing who everyone picks as their faves.
However I am wondering if anyone here is a parent, especially of a girl. No I'm not gonna go on a rant about skinny models ruining young girls Body images, We've all heard that.

I used to do some part time modeling about 100 years ago before I stopped Growing and started g-r-o-w-i-n-g Anyway, Now that I have gotten (a little) older I am finding myself increasingly aghast with some of the baby models they have in the magazines now. The reason a lot of these girls look 12-15 is because some of them ARE! Maybe it's because I am going to be a mommy, and perhaps even to a girl.. And with her mommy being an ex camera whore, and her daddy being a drummer, the odds are good that she could have a taste for this sort of thing. Lord knows she's gonna be tall...
anyway...
Sometimes when I am looking at these girls, I am getting such strong maternal reactions. I just wanna cover them up and scold everyone
who had anything to do with creating the images.
Now, I actually really like the look of a few of the girls with the baby faces,
some of them are 18+ with big elvish eyes and they're just adorable. However a few of them are not, they can't even drive, let alone vote or buy their own cigarettes to go with their diet cokes. Does anyone else here have this happen to them as well? Do you ever get uncomfortable seeing them with sheer deep V neck gowns or in extremely provacative poses?

Or are the surging hormones in my body mostly responsible for my new stronger preference for the "older" 19+ models.

Sorry for the rambling!

ClosetNerd, your post cracked me up. I think you'd be a great mommy. I mean, c'mon, those fierce MamaTigress instincts are kickin' in already - and those girls are not even your kids! (Which only means that your kid is probably going to be the most babied little thing in the universe. )

Salome, if I could remember their faces (and hence, their names), they wouldn't exactly be so blank slate-ish (and hence, unmemorable) to me anymore, now would they?

I'm not particularly fond of Erin Wasson. But of course, it's all subjective as to whether a model's only virtue is her nondescript looks or not, and even as to whether her looks are nondescript to begin with.

ETA: I think Kahlen's the closest ANTM has got this season to a chameleon-blankslate-wallpaper-whathaveyou. But of course that's very off topic.

Erin Wasson's main virtue to me is not her versatility but her natural coolness and sexiness, which is, of course, subjective. Erin's candids on models.com first made me fall in love:

ETA: I love her outfit.

There's just something special about her to me that transcends explanation. (But I'll stop posting Erin pictures, since no one likes her as I do.) When I saw Ann's candid from episode one, which even I'll admit was a terribly unflattering shot, I had the same instinct. (Wow, looking back at that thread was amusing. )

Aw, Salome. I'll stick up for Erin too! She's very versatile, which is one of the hallmarks of a true top model. She can do commercial pretty (ie Maybelline) and she can do more edgy fashion stuff as well. I like the pic you have posted above. Actually, I like her pictures more when her hair is back or covered - she has such as strong face. She seems like a cool chick too.

Closet Nerd, I do get what you mean, and you sound like you'd make such an adorable mommy!
For me, it was less of the physical, since some of the girls are made up and dressed to comfortably look way beyond their ages. Rather, its only after I realise their real ages, and compare it with certain meanings and objectives of the print that sets me wondering if the models really understand their role in the creation of the message. They might know what look to serve but I wonder how much they understand the possible implications which leads to the question are models really just living mannequins?
A model friend of mine told me her agent told her models are seen and not heard ... :rolleyes I totally disagree, but I can see why some would want a perfectly malleable model because thats the kinda clean canvas, soft clay that they can work around with.

I do feel a little ... "disturbed", in a lighter sense of the word, when I see the very young faces around, but at the same time I do appreciate the image. *shrugs*

On another note.. I hope this is not off topic, but can i bring up model-turned-actress Katherine Moennig?
<--- She's on my avatar.. A shot she did for Jane magazine if I'm not wrong, during her pre-acting days. Think she was in her mid twenties and I really love her features. Her body totally screams model as well.. here's some pictures.
