I saw that Naomi Campbell interview. I cannot stand her, she's just revolting. She is one of the most vulgar, classless celebrities I know of. No wonder she was voted Britain's Most Despised Person. Physically and verbally abusing her maid, snorting crack, halting photo shoots for hours at a time because she doesn't "feel like it." Gahh. Like I said, can't stand her. Never found her particularly intriguing as a model, and certainly substandard as a person.

| Okay, because it's depressing me that I have nowhere to go on a Friday night and because I'm incredibly bored, I'm going to post a few pics of models I like. (All you non-populists out there don't get your knickers in a knot - these are your more conventionally "model-y" models :Vlada (otherwise known as OMGSOCUTE): ![]() Eugenia (Yes I know she looks like Ann, or rather, Ann like her in some parallel universe where she manages not to manipulate her features with all the coarseness of a clown shutupshutupshup): ![]() ![]() Maria Carla (I just find that she always looks so soulful and intelligent): [edited by mod for nipplage] Sorry for the large images, btw. ETA: Edited to fix links |

| Salome, I had never heard of Hana but find her absolutely incredibly breathtaking. I actually gasped when I saw the first picture of her you posted. Has anyone mentioned Fabiana Semprebom? Very pretty and fresh-faced. Oooh Maria Carla ![]() |

) And I couldn't find an answer. I guess the polarity explains it, and the fact that brains - ! - is a factor for you. (BTW, if I still you as you continue to trash my gorgeous Ann, I don't think anything about any other model would "strike rage in my heart." )This is not about the conflict above, but just came to my mind... I find something pretty compelling about the famous non-model serving as model. It sort of adds another layer/dimension to the photography of clothing: You start with the garment itself. Then you could put it on a mannequin, a fairly blank form that carries little meaning. But there's something in us that likes to see clothes worn by animate objects, so we have models, who often appear half-mortal, half-mannequin. Then when you put famous people (including celebrity models) in the position instead, they bring with them not only a less-idealized form, but more of a context and often a story (in the case of actors, perhaps many stories). I'm not saying that I prefer non-models, because I don't. Britney Spears, for example, added a horribly tacky context to the cover of Vogue. There's also a lot to be said for the purity of the garment... But clothes are meant to be worn by imperfect people in the end, and I think it's interesting that today's public actually wants to see that. Did you make it this far? Okay, I don't know if what I wrote above makes any sense whatsoever written down, but it does in my own little world. ["Look for the woman in the dress. If there is no woman, there is no dress." ~ Coco Chanel]

| That's some good thinkin' there, Salome. I agree. The average layperson probably think high fashion models to be too remote; in contrast, actresses can be reassuringly familiar. On the other hand, familiarity does breed contempt...*shudders at memories of Britney Spears, sullying the rep of Vogue forever*[/end purist] Some more Maria Carla, who manages to simultaneously look doll-like and "fierce" (oh god the word has crept into my vocabulary and raped my usage of the English language ) without looking sickly. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() (By the way, this is how I'd look in a perfect world.) ![]() ![]() (Bellissima indeed.) ...And...just because I can... (HAHAHA!!) - Hong Kong's hugely popular actress and decidedly not haute couture model Maggie Q :Okay, that's it for tonight. Since I'm up and has been abandoned by my RL friends and absolutely can't sleep I might as well get started on that ten-page paper on the Book of Job which is not going to write itself...so nausicaa, out. |

| I think I understand what you are saying, Salome. It's exactly how I feel about Naomi Campbell. I remember being about 16 and seeing this gorgeous creature just appear out of nowhere and it was like My God...who IS that? And what IS that she has on? Then came the whole "Trinity" thing and all the horrible stories about her (including the one about her allegelly getting a just-starting-her-career Tyra kicked out of an unnamed show at the last minute because she didn't want another black model stealing her thunder. After Tyra had arrived there and was dressed to go on! And then, after all the other stories about her tardiness, not giving a damn, getting the boot from Elite, etc I was too thru with her, and I wouldn't want to wear ANYTHING that I see her wearing now because I would associate it with her nasty personality, if that makes any sense. Sometimes the clothes just look better when they are worn by some beautiful, yet unknown girl. All too often these days, the models overrule anything that they model because we know so much about them so teh emphasis is on the model rather than what she is wearing. Alex is fab partly because we don't know all of her business, and the same with Ai, so we see the model wearing fab clothes rather than thinking "OMG, there's Gemma again, isn't she just FAB" without giving a damn what she has on. Does that make any sense? |

| Sorry for any confusion or anything - I saw Angelina Jolie and 'what if...', and flashbacks of threats from the mods came pouring into my head. In other news, lol, what do you all think of the new 'Jones Apparel Group' girls - Daria, Giselle, and Kate? I find Gisele and Daria to make sense together but Kate kind of looks like the short, gap toothed cousin that doesn't fit in. ![]() ![]()

| I've honestly never hopped on the Daria bandwagon. I just don't get her. Giselle's not really my cup of tea either. I do like Kate, but I agree, she does look totally out of place in this group. If they were going for a sort of femme fatale allure there, her presence kinda threw it out of whack. I love her, but she's not right for that group. I just keep thinking of models I like, so here are some more yet unmentioned I think. Shalom Harlow. I've always found her face totally intriguing. I love her naughty Snow White picture, but I don't think I'm allowed to post it here, given the semi-naughtiness of it, so I'll post this one instead: [mod removed] Another of Karen Elson (I can't help it! I love her!) ![]() Kiara Kabukuru (who is adorable) ![]() Trish Goff (So cute. Little sweet pixie-esque...love her!) And that's all I can think of presently! Sorry if they're big... ![]() |

| Okay, there goes my plans to actually study tonight...*tosses books out the window* at the Jones Apparel pics. That's just wrong, man. But speaking of Kate... BEHOLD! ![]() ![]() COINCIDENCE? I think NOT. ![]() (...it just occured to me I can be very mean. Why am I so very mean? )ETA: Trish Goff, yes! I was actually thinking last season who Norelle resembled and all I got was Trish Goff except I couldn't put the name to the face, but it turns out they don't look actually that alike, after all. ![]() ETA2: Good choices btw, Saucy. : nod I think Yasmin Warsame would work as well in terms of glamour and the va-va-vamp -but she's so very, very skinny, so...maybe not. ![]() |

| A good guideline on posting the pics is that if it's big enough that it messes up the thread display, that's too big. You might also consider signing up for an image hosting service such as Imageshack or Photobucket. You can save the picture from a site, reduce the size on your computer, then upload to your service. That way you're not stealing the bandwith of another site (not that it's against the rules, but it's kind of crummy if it's someone with bandwidth limits) - plus, you can size the picture the way you want. And as long as you're all engaging in good discussion I don't see why you can't include actresses who have taken the modeling plunge. Except for that fact that they're dirty famewhores who are so hungry for attention they feel the need to plaster their airbrushed selves all over Vogue and the like. Locals only, man!
