6/24 Show Discussion **Spoilers** (AGT 2008)

Time for the producers to try and emotionally manipulate us again! Will my brain melt from watching this?

Unless I decide to watch that insane Japanese game show thingie...

The look of shock on the judges faces when the grinder girl performed seemed fake to me. At least ONE of these three has to have seen Letterman's show, where he has a grinder girl on fairly frequently.

I knew when they played the soundbite before the commercial that Piers was going to tell those tumblers that they were talented, despite the attempt to make it seem as though he was going to cut them off at the knees, especially after seeing them perform. He's right, though; the show is about talent, not the best sad story.

He's spouting bullcrap, and he's a smart enough man to know it.

What the show is about in theory is not always what it turns out to be about in practice. They look for the emotional "hooks", milk them to their max, and pop them up on the screen for us. We all know that...

Exhibit A: Neal Boyd aka "FauxPotts". I mean you'd think the guy was the second coming of Jesus from how they reacted, when in actuality he was more like the second coming of Paul Potts (but inferior). It was his dramatic arc they had him on for, and his (intentionally cast) resemblance. So if I was speaking to Piers directly now, I say "so its not all about talent, Piers. And you bloody well know it".

I missed his story, because I was switching back and forth between AGT and the AFI special last week. It's true that they do focus on the acts with the stories; too bad for some of those who get stuck in the montages. I would hate, though, for somebody to oust a better act just because they have a sadder, more prime-time-worthy story.

Heh.

Sharon's "X" almost took out that Russian Bar girl...

EDIT - Wow. Hasselhoff and me are on the same wavelength (he just made the same "X" comment). SCARY.

Later: An Ozzy impersonator? Who is no doubt going to yell out "Shaaaaaaron!" to her? Good grief.

Re: 6/24 Show Discussion **Spoilers** (AGT 2008)

I'm not an Ozzy fan, so I couldn't say whether he sounded like him or not...but he sounded terrible.

When Piers said that he didn't need to ask him what is act was, I thought that it would have been funny if he'd said that he was a Kathie Lee Gifford impersonator.

Crabby Piers, not liking the family group. Yet he lets the chick with the grinder through? Admittedly, "The Sound of Music" is maybe not the best audition song.

Piers does this for his "image" as the Simon of the show (which is even sillier when you consider that he's on the British version WITH Simon).

He buzzes people to see if it "shakes" their performance.

And next up... the Brokeback DC Cowboys. Where Sharon woos things up as if they'd actually fulfill some cowboy fantasy of hers (ain't gonna happen, Sharon).

Re: 6/24 Show Discussion **Spoilers** (AGT 2008)

I wasn't terribly impressed with the dancing cowboys. From what little I could see--at most, we got to see 5 consecutive seconds of them--they were OK, but nothing spectacular. They weren't in sync much of the time, and I think the song had more to do with the reaction of the crowd than the actual dancing.

This woman has a powerful voice, but I don't find it terribly moving.

Once again, Piers shows his loathing of any form of entertainment that's uniquely American. Gospel in this case.

I DO get that the show is (once more) trying to emotionally manipulate us with her though.
