Seacrest Taps into the Hoff's Tales
by Natalie Finn

If anyone can reinvigorate David Hasselhoff's Knight Rider-era idol status, it's Ryan Seacrest.

The perennially busy American Idol host will executive produce the scripted dark comedy Tales of the Hoff, a fictional look at the 55-year-old actor's experiences as an international star trying to beef up his career credentials and a divorced dad trying to navigate the Hollywood dating scene that is currently in development at E!

The Drew Carey Show's Dan O'Keefe has been tapped to pen the pilot episode and will also serve as an executive producer, along with Seacrest, Hasselhoff and Eliot Goldberg.

Should the show be picked up, Hasselhoff would star as himself—and yet not—similar to Larry David's fictional yet steeped-in-reality persona on Curb Your Enthusiasm. A supporting cast has not yet been announced.

Since becoming an E! News anchor last year, Seacrest has also had his hand in the E! reality series Paradise City and the upcoming Keeping Up with the Kardashians, a day-in-the-life look at socialite and designer Kim Kardashian and her high-profile family that premieres Oct. 14.

Seacrest hosted the 59th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sept. 8, in addition to fulfilling his usual duties on E!'s red carpet preshow, and he was also on the road earlier this summer when the seventh round of American Idol auditions kicked off. (E! Online is a division of E! Networks.)

Hasselhoff recently wrapped up his second season as a judge on NBC's America's Got Talent, and continues to be recognized everywhere he goes thanks to Baywatch's global reach and to his bizarrely marketable catchphrase, "Don't Hassle the Hoff."

Tales from the Hoff is said to be inspired by actual conversations between Hasselhoff and his friends about how his life experiences would make for great TV.
