So what was Phil apologizing for at the beginning of the episode tonight? The teams visited war-related sights in Vietnam last week, but I don't recall any disparagement of American soldiers. Did I miss something? The war itself is a historical fact, and it shouldn't be a surprise that the Vietnamese see it a little differently from the U.S.

The clue box at the B-52 bomber trophy was inappropriate and offensive to the American soldiers (like my husband) who fought in Vietnam . . . not to mention the happy little "socialism and communism are wonderful" song. They have acknowledged the need to have a moment of respect at some stops in the past, but no respect was shown to the Americans who fought in Vietnam.

My father served in Vietnam, so I was NOT impressed with that clue at the downed plane. I don't think the show should have agreed to film there in the first place; however, kudos to them for acknowledging their mistake and apologizing.

As for the "we love communism" song, I actually LOL at that. One year at my sister's university, a group of Vietnamese students protested when it came time for the Diversity Day parade. It seems that their families had fled from southern Vietnam. According to them, southerners hated it when the Americans pulled out. They despise the northern communists who conquered them and so refuse to recognize the government. They even have their own unofficial flag, which is what these students wanted to fly on the Vietnamese float. Sadly, the university refused to let them do that.

    Ok, on to tonight's show.

I didn't mind Katie wanting to hide her intelligence; other teams have tried to conceal things about themselves in the past to gain a strategic advantage. However, they completely lost any sympathy from me with their disgusting remarks about the Bushmen. I am so hoping they flame out next week. Good riddance.

What was the one Roadblock that Chuck said Wynona had done? And notice that they talked about having to even up the tally, which means that TPTB gave them a talking to, which means that Wynona still would be coasting off Chuck if she could. I did feel a little sorry for them in the safari plane, though. Yes, girls, even hicks from Arkansas know that The Lion King was a cartoon. That was just rude to say something. Chuck is such a nice guy, he might have been trying to make a joke. And I will say that Wynona at least handled the scorpion challenge much better than YouTuber. I wish that scorpion had bitten him.

Which blond was it who said "They stink" when walking behind the Indigenous People? Was it the "smart" Ph.D? Whoever said it is about as dumb as they come.

I loved all the village scenes and the animal photography was fabulous.

They were apologizing because two stops featured items that are indeed sensitive to some veterans from the Vietnam era - the Socialism song in the Roadblock (which is in a way in your face to those who fought on the South - and free - Vietnam side in the war), and then the downed B-52 at a route info marker, which is an AMERICAN plane.

Now, I've said before that they have had what are seen as touchy scenes and stops in this show: Auschwitz, Hiroshima, Hanoi Hilton where John McCain was; and they have been in Socialist states (and several countries with a monarchy). Thing is - in all these cases there was a moment of reflection/a memorial ceremony, and the cases of socialist states/monarchy they're lightly touched on, such as going to a castle or stricter lifestyles.

But here - the Socialism song was VERY in your face, and touted wonders of how Socialism makes everything wonderful and then there was NO reflection time on the bomber and how destructive this war that most can agree we should've never gotten into in the first place (like with Korea).

I'm glad they did do the apology though - as I have read elsewhere, for some veterans who saw those scenes they could've had a flashback of a fight they were in and that cause problems, and others just felt it insensitive to the military in general - i.e. it was another round of the hatred spewed by some of the more virulent war-protesters. I do hope though in the future they rethink where they go in the world to do stops - especially IF said country may have a hand in where they can film. I say this here because they did as someone mentioned have a stop in Vietnam before and it was the Hanoi Hilton, which we've heard from survivors was a very brutal camp and reflects on the country negatively.

Just tuned in! Sorry TAR, that bell can't be un-rung. Your apology is NOT accepted.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's too late to stop reading it.
