    The Amazing Race 7 Greenlit

    From Comingsoon.net

With The Amazing Race 5 shaping up as a summer blockbuster, and The Amazing Race 6 starting production this week, CBS has greenlit casting for the seventh installment of Bert van Munster and Jerry Bruckheimer's reality series, reports Variety.

This summer, the series has benefited from a massive promo blitz and smart scheduling, says the trade, with CBS programmers slating "Amazing Race" Tuesdays at 10 p.m. after Big Brother 5. As a result, "Amazing Race" has emerged as one of the summer's five top-rated shows among adults 18-49.

The sixth installment of is set to shift to Saturday nights this fall barring a last-minute scheduling shift by CBS.

I think it's a new tactic from the honchos at CBS: how badly can we abuse the goodwill of TAR fans and still have them watch? Possibly a version of "market research"...

Maybe they'll have a repeat day some time during the week like they use Saturday for now with TAR5?

A possible silver lining. If the TAR6 Saturday plan backfires, they ruin a whole season even if they shift nights later in the run. But if TAR7 has a similar cycle and schedule next summer to TAR5 this summer, and comes back even somewhat in ratings, it will then prove to them for good that the franchise deserves better scheduling. What might emerge could be a permanent summer scheduling for TAR every year--which on balance would be GOOD because it would assure us at least one edition per year.

People never watched SNL as early as 9PM EST--and that's when Amazing Race will be shown.

Krom, that site you posted hasn't been updated

TAR is Saturday at 8 PM and not 9 PM! This change occured on June 3rd.

And if the shift fails and TAR falls...it has very little chance to get back on track. CBS should just leave it put where it does good...then again, Judging Amy gets better household ratings/viewers (However TARs 18-49 rating is higher...and that's what should count).

CBS is currently the highest in viewers/households. Placing it after CSI, it still would get significantly less viewers than WAT, and therefore thats a no brainer for CBS. Maybe if we are lucky, a show such as Clubhouse or Dr. Vegas will fail and TAR can take one of their spots, instead of CBS placing 48 hours there.

Also, this doesn't mean they greenlighted TAR7...just means CBS greenlighted the casting.

Nothing really new here. Just like it when an article calls TAR a "surprise summer hit."

August 16, 2004 -- CASTING has already started on a seventh edi tion of "The Amazing Race," despite only being halfway through its fifth edition.
The around-the-world series has become the surprise hit of the summer, leaping into the top 10 regularly.

CBS was so pleased with the show's new-found popularity that it has shifted it out of its usual summer-only run and slated the show for Saturday nights this fall.

"For the uninitiated, The Amazing Race pits about a dozen two-person teams against one another in a race around the world. During the race, teams have to perform stunts to earn clues about the next leg of the race. The teams are made up of people who are somehow connected with each other -- spouses, couples, parents and children, cousins and, in this case, brothers.

Many critics consider it the best "reality" series on TV because, although it has certain bickering and back-stabbing reality-show moments, it moves at a rocket pace and provides an incredible -- if almost blurry -- travelogue of exotic places on several continents. This season, for instance, has included stops at St. Petersburg's Hermitage Museum and at the Great Pyramids of Egypt -- and that was just in the past two episodes.

The series is enjoying the best ratings in its history, and that audience got to see host Phil Keoghan's surprise when the Hudeses called it a day. "
