I see serious issues for Team Mullet as they move forward. Sooner or later she is going to have a slew of tasks she has to do and some of those will most likely not be easy, especially for someone not physically adept.

Thanks, all, for your understanding of our discomfort with the Hanoi stop. I tried to remind myself that they HAVE visited Germany and Japan - but those were part of a generic history that we read about in books. My husband's time in Vietnam represented a year in which I was afraid to answer the telephone, and every knock on the door brought the fear that it was an army chaplain. The song about socialism with the big flowers was bad enough, but that B-52 is there as a reminder of the "American aggressors" (according to the adjacent plaque) during the Vietnam war.

I'm just glad they're off to less controversial places. On with the Race!

I admit that Max and Katie get on my nerves with the "entitled" attitude at times, but they were so spot on with this comment and it was deserved. I mean - they even had the unflappable Phil say "Oi Vey" last week after they left with the pass. I mean - come on - a GUARANTEED advancement and they hold on to the pass?

I think the UTubers hated the comment because in their minds they think everyone should be friends with each other and in a way the comments weren't. Maybe they deduced it as bad sportsmanship, but it honestly in this case wasn't - ESPECIALLY when there's a team that you know is there at the task and you will pass at least one person.

That would be interesting, though in this case that didn't happen. There is the likelihood that they would turn a NEL into an elimination leg. This is quite easy to do - in fact I think they'd just made this a NEL when it was announced Dave and Connor were leaving, but at the same time I maintain Pam and Winnie had probably by then gotten to the U-Turn and used it so they couldn't take it out (well that and taking it out when it was announced as being in the leg would signal big time that there was a withdrawal).

I don't really see it as a NEL. Conner and Dave were eliminated, just earlier in the show.

I kind of understand why the youtubers were upset I guess, they had just lost an ally, and know they are on the outs. It wasn't a rational reason for getting upset... they were feeling defensive, I guess. That said, if thjey really want to play, they should have been laughing along and trying to get along with other teams somewhat. Alienating yourself isn't a very good idea. That said, Max was on the money about the situation.

I find there are a few teams I like and am rooting for: Pam and Winnie (though I fear once they need to navigate themselves again they'll fall apart), the hockey players, and I'm not minding the country singers too much... they're benign.
    Max and Katie are entertainment.

Re: 3/17 TAR 22 Episode 5 **West Coast Spoilers**

The weirdly cheery "Socialism" song was over the top for me in so many ways. I kept remembering pictures from the war while they sang it.

The show did repeat the song at the end of the show during that last screen that says "Amazing Race" and it did seem to have a mocking tone to it. I may have imagined that though.

They have been using that last credit spot right after the race ends to use some music from the show that has just ended to "comment" on something that has happened during the show. It feels very tongue in cheek. But I can't described it any better than that.

Has anyone else noticed this? It happens every week. Last week right after the couple with the Express Pass was eliminated they played some goofy music that sounded like something you'd hear in a cartoon while Wiley Coyote was getting himself bashed to smithereens by the Roadrunner.

I hope it's not just my imagination because I've been enjoying the "ironic commentary" of the music every week.

I've noticed them also, Orion. Though this week I wasn't in the mood to hear a mocking quality in the song.

AZ thank you for sharing your story. I feel for your husband and other soldiers who served there who were treated as pariahs - or worse - for serving in the military. Heck, my Dad DIDN'T serve overseas, and was in ROTC, and had a teacher call him a "baby killer" of all things.

In fact - I'm with others who have implied that the ONLY reason the show was allowed to film in Vietnam was under the agreement these were the places they would have to film in or use as contest pieces.

This doesn't surprise me given that they would know we had anti-war protesters in Hollywood (Jane Fonda, Donald Sutherland, a few others) who were rather good at spreading their propaganda. Why not use the media again? If I had been production, I would've reconsidered this location if indeed that speculation I've given WAS true - because WHY alienate your own viewers who served there?

And I'm saying this knowing they have been in communist/socialist countries, but there they did NOT show any "American Aggression" or do a "Socialism is great" in your face song to the contestants. They were neutral events.

I'm like you however - I would prefer this show stay in less controversial places. Besides, the world is MUCH MUCH larger that we do not need trips to places where we're seen as aggressors, or just overused (i.e. India).

Jadewarlock: There is the uncomfortable fact that controversy creates more viewers. I can see that as a possible reason for their filming in such controversial and still-disturbing areas of Vietnam as well as the use of the in your face "Socialism" song.
