Week 9 Ratings: Pride Takes a Bite out of TAR's Ratings

Last night in the ratings, TAR was #2 in both rating/share and adults 18-49. In the first half hour, NBC's Father of the Pride was the only show that did beat it (by 1 whole rating point). Luckily, when Scrubs came on it all dropped.

TAR recieved a 6.0/9 rating/share last night, which is a .6 drop from 6.6/11 last week. However, since this is by time period, and Pacific viewers saw it at 10 PM instead of 9 PM, this rating might be a bit higher.

Adults 18-49 and total viewers coming soon.

Overall, these are the numbers in viewers...(numbers are preliminary)

Father of the Pride (11.01 million)
    Amazing Race 5 (9.18 million)

This is likely the first and only time that TAR will have to face off with the NBC adult cartoon series.

Several factors likely played a role in the loss of viewership:

    1) a different (earlier) time period. Lead-in "Big Brother" also dipped in viewership from last week with 7.71 million viewers (but enough to win its time period).

    2) tougher competition. NBC relentlessly plugged "Pride" during the Summer Olympics. While TAR won't face it next week, I'll be interested to see how many of those 11+ million viewers come back a second time.

    3) a second non-elimination leg. While I understand the need to have NELs (having more episodes than contestants), four NELs seem a bit much - especially two in row! In the future, perhaps producers would do better to have another set of racers added to the race or lower the number of episodes. The only drama last night's episode provided was the possibility that Brandon/Nicole would finish so far behind that they may not be able to catch up next week. (They checked in at night, while the other teams got in while the sun was still out.)

Still good numbers with NBC's new show.

OT, don't be miss leaded by daylight. It was filmed in the winter time and days are much shorter then. They might be 1h-2h tops behind the twins. That will be the least of their problem on the next leg.

TAR's Adult 18-49 rating was 3.9, which matches what it recieved on the first olympic night as the worst adults 18-49 rating for TAR5. HOWEVER, since this goes by time period and includes only eastern/central for TAR (this rating is BB for mountain/pacific) this is most likely to rise to at least 4.1-4.2.

Then again India is much closer to the equator so the amount of daylight they get throughout the year stays pretty much the same.

I've never even heard of Father of the Pride.

    FINAL NIELSEN RATINGS:
    At 9:00 PM, THE AMAZING RACE 5 SPECIAL (S) was second in households (6.3/10, -0.1 behind NBC), viewers (9.98m, -0.05m viewers), adults 25-54 (4.7/11, -0.1 behind NBC), adults 18-49 (4.3/11, -0.2 behind NBC) and adults 18-34 (3.9/12).

    THE AMAZING RACE 5 SPECIAL dominated the 9:30-10PM time slot, finishing first in households (6.6/11), viewers (10.42m), adults 25-54 (5.0/12), adults 18-49 (4.6/12) and adults 18-34 (4.2/12). THE AMAZING RACE 5 SPECIAL easily topped NBC's 9:30-10:00PM portion of "Scrubs" in households (6.6/11 vs. 5.4/08, +22%), adults 25-54 (5.0/12 vs. 4.0/09, +25%), adults 18-49 (4.6/12 vs. 3.8/10, +21%), adults 18-34 (4.2/12 vs. 4.0/11, +5%) and attracted almost 2 million viewers more than NBC (10.42m vs. 8.26m, +2.16m).
TAR's 2nd half an hour rocked the house, but the first half an hour not so much...TAR recieved an average 6.3/10 rating/share and 9.98 million viewers with a 4.3 in Adults 18-49.

Still......10 Million viewers isn't bad? I would never miss TAR no matter what show was up against it.

Besides, it's all the stupid Republican's fault! Quit messing with the Race!

It wasn't the Repbulicans...it was Father of the Pride.

Look at the 2nd half-hour, it had normal TAR ratings (by normal I mean comparable to other weeks with L&O:SVU as competition). It was TAR viewers who were interested in Father of the Pride that caused the ratings to dip.

And as a joke, the title of the Nielsen ratings release was "CBS IS KING OF THE JUNGLE...AND WE AIN'T LION!" A little Father of the Pride joke there.

Yeah, but if TAR was on at 10 instead of 9 it probably would have won!
