    TAR5 start in feb?

they said star search this year is only 9 episodes...thats 2 episodes a week + Sat jan 17 premiere meaning 4 weeks after...which means if Star Search doesn't go into season two...it ends on the 11th...since the 18th is presidents day week

does that mean TAR can start Feb 25th????????

It probably won't. I expect them to start it after Survivor 8, in the Thursday slot.

But I could be wrong even about that. I don't think we'll see TAR5 until early summer.

I've just assumed that TAR5 would be Summer just like TAR4.

In its 3 fall/spring airings TAR (1-2-3) has been a mediocre success, other than when it has been on the same night as Survivor a few times--then it has done quite well.

But, during Summer '03, TAR4 was a mild hit, being a regular in the Top 20 each week by mid-TAR4. Also, by mid-TAR4 it was regularly winning the 8-9pmEastern time slot for Thursdays. And, for its entire summer run, TAR4 was the THIRD most watched 8-9pmE show regardless of day of week. That's 3rd out of 28, if you count the 4 major networks times 7 days.

Why would CBS risk putting it back in spring, where it never broke out as a hit. I'd say it goes back in summer '04, then, maybe, if it builds on last summer's success, it might find its way back into fall/spring lineups. I'd love to see it twice a year instead of once, but given its history so far, I'd rather see it SUCCESSFUL once per year instead of getting cancelled trying to go twice a year.

Over on another forum (TWOP), there is someone that has posted about going to semi-final interview, but was not selected to go to finals in LA, but was apparently called from LA a few times prior to being "Philiminated" from the app process. From what I have read of their posts I tend to believe that they did indeed experience what they claim. And some Racers there tend to corroborate (sp?) their experiences. Anyway, my point is, they mention that they were told
"to be ready to for travel from January-Mid March 2004... they didn't have the exact dates yet".
The apps said Jan/Feb, but I always suspected that TAR5 may actually take place a little later. Yes, they'd need to do the Jan/Feb timeframe to have a shot at a spring time slot, but if they are going for Summer all along, why not wait a little later making weather a little more cooperative wherever they decide to go.

I expect that Star Search will have at least a couple of "seasons" this spring. Maybe not 3 (or 4?) like they did last Spring.

I agree with John that TAR5 is probably headed back to its same timeslot as TAR4. Hopefully the promotion of it will be a little different than last year. CBS ran lots of ads leading up to TAR4, just not necessarily at the right times. The two biggest mistakes I remember them making (in my opinion anyway) were...
    (1) They only had one TAR4 ad during the Survivor finale. TAR4 was going to be taking over that timeslot during Summer. Why not at least a short 5-second snippet coming back from each commercial break?
    (2) The deadly two weeks off. Survivor ended. Then two weeks with nothing. Then TAR4 started. I understand that they maybe wanted TAR4 to start on a certain date so that it would end on certain date. But, I think now that they know the success that TAR5 may have during Summer, they should time it differently. If there needs to be some off weeks, then fill that slot during those weeks with TAR-related shows. If you've got two weeks to fill, then put together a highlight show from previous TARs. This will certainly entertain fans. And, would possibly hype up some new viewers.

Well I just hope CBS doesn't air TAR5 opposite the Olympics. I believe they are in August, so CBS should start TAR5 earlier than late May to avoid direct competition with NBC's coverage and the inevitable loss of TAR5 in the hoopla.

Are we sure that TAR5 will even start filming soon?

The various security issues of the past several weeks -- heightened alerts, flights cancelled or sent back, military plane escorts, international carriers looking to add armed marshals on some flights, etc. -- might have the producers holding off for awhile til things settle down.

Been awhile since I've posted on the forums. If CBS doesn't plan on airing TAR5 until next summer- and those in charge of the show probablt know when it's going to air- then they might hold off filiming. However, if there all set to go, having secured locations and certain attractions (I know that during TAR1 they actually rented out landmarks to avoid the public) they may not have a choice. Also, when you look at past season, there were probably things that they wouldn't have been able to do a month down the road. I'm sure the producers have a feel for how safe it is to where ever there going, so if they felt there was any serious threat, they'd probably have an alternate plan or something.

Chances are, CBS won't air it until the summer. I haven't heard anything about a sixth season, but that will probably determine how good the fifth season does or if it wins another Emmy. I think that's probably what got us a fifth season.

luckily...we have a chance to know if they're filming

if they win the Producers Guild Award, but Betram, Phil, and the rest aren't there to accept it this Saturday, then they are filming...if they are there...then they're not

and if they don't win...we will never know until 1 month before it airs
