The surprise Emmy win for The Amazing Race Sunday night couldn't have come at a better time for the show's executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

While Bruckheimer had begun preparations for a fifth installment of the globe-hopping competition, there had been no official renewal notification from CBS. Going into the weekend, the show's fate was very much up in the air.

But after the awards Sunday night, with the Emmy in hand for Outstanding Reality/Competition Program, Bruckheimer was telling associates that CBS had finally given him the greenlight for another season of The Amazing Race in 2004.

Not doing so would be hard for the network to justify, after The Amazing Race beat out presumptive favorites American Idol and Survivor in the first year of Emmy competition in the new reality category.

Though a critical favorite, The Amazing Race was not seen by many Emmy predictors as having a chance against Ruben, Clay and the castaways. But I guess that's why they call it a race. "

As Phil stands on the podium, "Ryan and Jeff, you are the last time team to arrive." BOOYA
"Reality is merely an illusion abeit a very pesistent one."

The Amazing Race is the best... I don't see why CBS must wait until an Emmy Award to re-new it... That's a shame...

I thought I'd throw this in here... just goes to show that you can't believe everything you read. This was posted by a guy named Mike on the ctv.ca message board:

Just to let you guys know...Amazing Race 5 is already underway as we speak. They were taping in Vancouver, BC this past weekend. Their route markers and their information cards in the box were spotted at the Vancouver Art Gallery (downtown). After reading their instructions, they were instructed to head for Whistler, BC (site of the future 2010 Olympics). Next season should be pretty exciting. I believe this is their first trek into Canada since the show began.
I'm pretty skeptical, since all indications are that TAR 5 is still in the casting stage...

The story is not true. isn't this the same story they floated about the end of TAR4?

I think TAR5 has been given the green light by CBS now and not just for casting. There was an article yesterday that quotes Bruckheimer as stating that he has been given the green light to start producing TAR5. I put the link for the article on the thread about TAR winning the Emmy.

Okay, someone brought this up again. That sighting that was seen in Canada was probably the "Canadian Outback's Amazing Race". And the thing was/is filmed in Vancouver also. There's a whole thread about this Unofficial Canadian Amazing Race: It Exisits It is quite impossible for TAR5 to be filmed in Canada when the application process isn't done yet.
And the Emmy goes to.....THE AMAZING RACE!!! (For real!)
