I am very happy! Amazing race is in a class of its own. There is no other reality show that is as exciting as this show. More power to the Amazing race

Let me join in the applause!

It's really terrific that the first Emmy for OUTSTANDING REALITY/COMPETITION PROGRAM goes to THE AMAZING RACE. What an honor!

Yeah, technically the award was for TAR3 and not TAR4 (which had only aired one episode during the eligibility period). TAR4 will be eligible for next year's Emmys.

Also, I thought it was great that the guy who made the speech (Bertram?) thanked all 48 teams (Wait? Were there 48 or 46? I read somewhere that there were only 10 teams during the first year), and not just the TAR3 group.
There were 11 teams on both TAR 1 & 2 and 12 teams on TAR 3 & 4. So 46 would've been the correct number.

    First of all ….

CONGRATULATIONS to The Amazing Race!!!!! I was practically crying for joy (the screaming alone was enough to cause concern!!)

Secondly, there are some pretty mixed messages in this thread regarding TAR’s renewal.

FWIW, a blurb from the USA TODAY write-up on the Emmys...

And in a surprise twist befitting its category, CBS' modestly rated The Amazing Race won the Emmys' first award for reality/competition program, besting hits American Idol and Survivor. Such shows recently had been honored in a separate non-fiction category.

"We still haven't been renewed, so this feels wonderful," producer Jerry Bruckheimer said backstage. "Are you watching, CBS?"

Some are saying it’s been renewed, but after this quote – it doesn’t seem like it has. To those who have said TAR has been renewed….where did you get your information?

    From Variety, September 15, 2003:

The Amazing Race 5 Gets the Green Light

CBS has given executive producers Bertram van Munster and Jerry Bruckheimer the green light to begin casting for a fifth installment of the Emmy-nominated reality hit The Amazing Race.

The network traditionally lets its reality producers begin casting only when there's a solid shot of a pickup or renewal, particularly when it comes to existing franchises.

The Amazing Race 4, hosted by Phil Keoghan, was a solid Nielsen performer for CBS this summer in a difficult 8 p.m. Thursday slot, building ratings momentum as its season went along.

So, it hasn't officially been renewed, but chances are very good that it will be. The Emmy win can only help.

Thanks for the info, LAGuy! I'm so happy to hear that TAR 5 is becoming more of a reality (really, no pun intended).

TAR has not been renewed, to be clear. They have only been given the go-ahead to accept applications and begin casting. Not the go-ahead to actually film anything.

ALL RIGHT!!! Maybe this'll give CBS a reason to renew TAR for another incredible season!
