Thursday Night Ratings: TAR closing in on NBC

    From Zap2it.com

Thursday Win Is No Mystery for CBS

Fast National ratings for Thursday, July 10, 2003

Reruns of "CSI" and "Without a Trace" continued to perform well for CBS Thursday, giving the network a win for the night.

CBS averaged a 7.0 rating/13 share in primetime to win the night going away. NBC, 4.8/9, narrowly beat ABC, 4.7/8, for second place. FOX averaged 3.0/5. In the metered markets, UPN posted a 4.2/7 and The WB a 3.1/5.

Among adults 18-49, CBS led with a 3.3 rating. NBC averaged 2.9, ABC 2.1 and FOX 1.9.

NBC led the 8 p.m. hour with "Friends," 5.8/11, and "Scrubs," 4.9/9. CBS' "Amazing Race," 5.3/10, was a close second. ABC took third with the movie "Picture Perfect" (4.5/8 average from 8 to 10 p.m.). "WWE Smackdown!" on UPN finished fourth, ahead of the "Dale Earnhardt Tribute Concert" on FOX, 3.0/6, and the movie "Blue Streak" on The WB.

"CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" averaged 8.1/14 for CBS at 9 p.m. Reruns of "Will & Grace," 4.7/8, and "Frasier," 4.4/8, on NBC tied for second with ABC's movie. "Smackdown," 4.4/7, stayed in fourth. FOX's concert special held steady in fifth, followed by The WB's movie.

At 10 p.m., "Without a Trace" posted a 7.5/13 for CBS. ABC's "Primetime Thursday" averaged 5.2/10 to beat a rerun of "ER" on NBC, 4.6/8.
According to Zap2it's numbers, for the 8:00 hour, NBC averaged a 5.4, so "The Amazing Race" was a very close second with a 5.3.

    Mediaweek.com has slightly different numbers:
Note: These ratings exclude the St. Louis, Nashville, New Orleans, Sacramento, Milwaukee, Memphis, Louisville and Austin markets.

Thanks to the strength of repeats of CSI (#1 for the night: 9.9/16) and Without A Trace (#1: 8.4/14) from 9-11 p.m., CBS's lead over NBC last night was a considerable 42 percent. Although a repeat of NBC's Friends (6.6/12) ranked first at 8 p.m., the second half-hour of The Amazing Race 4 picked up the winning ratings ball with a 6.3/10 at 8:30 p.m. Overall, The Amazing Race averaged a 6.0/10. A repeat of NBC's Scrubs, which is hoping for some Emmy recognition, averaged a second-place 5.7/10 at 8:30 p.m.
According to MediaWeek's numbers, NBC averaged a 6.2 in the 8:00 hour, with TAR only 0.2 behind. I think this is the closest TAR has been to NBC? If it is, that's great news. Getting ever closer to topping NBC in the hour.

I'll add the ratings from The Futon Critic later.

That would be awesome if TAR could eventually take over NBC! I'd love to see this show come back next season! And it seems to be doing much better than it was earlier on.
