I think Utube picked them because they figured if it was just those 2 teams left doing both the raodblocks (detours?) than they could do them faster than C/W and would have a chance to make it to the pit stop first.
They probably thought - rightly - that Chuck and Wynona would be the slowest on the take for these challenges, and add to it doing ANOTHER challenge in the U-Turn, would guarantee them a much better chance at staying around at least another leg or two over the other team. And - had Dave and Connor not dropped out of this challenge, it would've been a smart one.
I say this because Chuck and Wynona 1. lost second place at the bamboo dance to sixth? because they didn't hold hands, 2. intentionally forgot the chickens thinking they wouldn't be needed for the task, and 3. Phil made it clear that this was NOT a non-elimination leg planned as he said that Dave and Connor had to withdraw from the race. Otherwise he'd said it was a NEL and they had to do a speedbump.
My ONLY disappointment was that Phil did the elimination speech to Dave and Connor - they weren't eliminated, they withdrew. I didn't think he should've said "You have been eliminated from the race." I think he could've amended it to "Your jouney has ended, and we wish you the best" or something a bit more positive - because IMHO if it wasn't that severe they'd continued. You can tell father and son love each other and would do anything to help and cheer on the other. I do wish them the best, and YES they should be in an All-Stars edition.
I'm so sorry to hear that. When I was watching I wondered how many people that brought up bad memories for.
I cringed over the wreckage of the B52.
It is unfortunately a part of our history, so I had no problem with it as I haven't with them having a stop at Hiroshima, Auschwitz, and a few other places. And - given that everyone seemed to be bouncing with joy to the tune of how positive Socialism is - not knowing what was being said, it was needed so maybe the contestants - and us - learn about other cultures.
I was surprised they even had a leg in Vietnam myself because of the political arguments - even now - between hawks and doves during that era.
It's obvious in this case it was going to be an elimination leg, but when Dave and Connor quit to help keep Dave from having a permanent and possibly debilitating injury, it had to become an NEL. For all we know too, Dave and Connor's withdrawal came just after Pam and Winnie U-Turned the Internet sensations and when that happened they couldn't remove the U-ey.
It's the fact Phil said "Dave and Connor withdrew, so you're still in the race" and there was ZERO mention of a speedbump that gives creedence to this.
Personally I feel for Pam and Winnie and Joeh and Meghan because they used U-Turns on a leg that was a NEL.
