Re: 11/28 Show Discussion *Spoilers*
I don't think I've ever been angrier with a racer on this show than I was with Nick, for taking a nap in the middle of the detour, and especially after Vicki had eaten all that food. How dare he just give up.
That food roadblock would be my nightmare, I'm so picky. I would be poking the hell out of all that food, trying not to pick anything up. LOL And for the detour, that Ding Ding choice seemed so hard. How would you know if you had the right sign?? (Except the Pit Stop sign, if you saw that it would probably be obvious. lol )

I think they were the only signs in English, but I could be wrong. They were all exactly the same shape and style. And the way it was edited, the "Pit Stop" one was first to give them an idea of what to look for.
Re: 11/28 Show Discussion *Spoilers*
The Detour options both looked very hard, but the boat one really did look like the better option. The best part of the episode was definitely Kat, Jill and especially Brook just partying it up at the restaurant, I always like seeing racers just let loose and have fun. Watching Jill find the boat so incredibly easy was great too, but it was also nice to see the doctors come from behind them and into first place.
Okay, Chad was a jerk to Stephanie, and Kevin was a jerk to Michael, but I would rather have them both back in place of Nick. Seriously, what an absolute King Douchebag. Laughing it up when Claire was struggling, outright quitting during the Detour, never a single word of support towards Vicki, not during the Roadblock and not during the Detour when she was trying her hardest to make it through. I cannot believe he kept dissing her when he gave up and started napping in the boat. I want them gone, seriously, I can't even root for Vicki anymore because she never even snapped at him and eventually let him convince her to quit the Detour. Nick can go join season 6's Jonathan in the list of Biggest TAR Jerks.
And I have seen all these people and characters in those pistachio commercials, and I liked seeing Caite in one, it's pretty cute how she's cool with making fun of herself.
Re: 11/28 Show Discussion *Spoilers*
Best way to sum this up:
1. Nat and Kat and Brooke and Claire are by far my favorite two teams. Not because they're all women teams, but because they're having FUN in this race. They are appreciating this race and what it all has to offer instead of racing for just the money (Yes, there's a difference here). Jill and Thomas I don't mind save his dissing her because he's a college graduate and she's not. I would prefer one of the girls' teams win, but at least if they were in the final three, I won't be as upset.
2. Personally, I would've liked the food challenge, and wanted to say that the first things I'd go for were the sashimi (the salmon food) or the prawns because I'd rather risk those and have to eat grosser stuff first so I'd get it out of the way. IMHO, if the racers were smarter, they'd gone for the raw or face items first because you could just get the "gross" food over with if you were wrong. In fact, the bigger challenge would be the raw foods were fake for that reason (well that and less chance of food poisoning).
3. Nick and Vicki - Oh my gosh, I feel bad for Vicki. As an asthmatic, I can vouch you cannot easily treat an attack while walking and using the inhaler, much less run and take it. It can also make you very jittery because the medicine flows through your body faster with the adrenaline.
Then the food challenge - I mean, Vicki was very good to not give up on the food challenge for two reasons. First, it shows she's not a quitter in this game and secondly, by NOT quitting they only have the one 6 hour penalty instead of a 12-hour deficit for quitting TWO in one leg. Then again - IMHO it'd effectively disqualify them and next week all three that did everything would be the final three.
In short - Vicki has nothing to be ashamed about in this leg of the race or race in general. Nick, however, should be ashamed of himself BIG TIME. Seriously - going to sleep and letting your partner - who is just as tired and had to basically eat everything on the buffet to continue in the race, complete the challenge? It's disgusting, and I think the only reason they're still in the race (besides the NEL) was that VICKI herself hasn't checked out of the game.
(Frankly, I would never look down at her for quitting the race if it was to get out of that relationship and the race - I'm so hoping she is realizing he is not the person for her. No matter the editing here, the things he's saying are NOT right. Even Jonathan I think has more scruples (if few) than Nick here.
4. Re: Brooke and Claire - the poor gal with the road block, It's amazing she has had to deal with all this bad luck during the race. She got nearly KO'd by a watermelon, the rappelling issue she apparently was afraid of heights (note, I didn't see that leg so if I'm off apologies) then has to sample foods she's pretty picky about in this leg. That said, she's been VERY tough, and her partner is very supporting. And I LOVE how both really got the crowd going and celebrating when they got their next clue. That was hilarious (if just a smidge over the top, but I'd rather OTT fun over jerky any day).
5. Poor Phil and the greeter at the pit stop - One of the rare times I've seen them have to use umbrellas to wait for stragglers to the pit stop. Still, great job by the greeter to keep a smile on her face and Phil straight face with the challenges this duo will face this next leg (and I doubt this time they're getting a bye on the speed bump given they quit a detour.)
6. I think it was cool they went to Hong Kong, but question the competition's decision to go to South Korea and be near the North Korea border. Apparently IMHO this race they didn't remember their history and forgot that the two countries are technically at war and N. Korea had bombed the ship I believe just before this leg was filmed. I don't mind them going to Seoul or to a point Panmunjom (a neutral place between the two countries), but still, it's a huge risk and I hope they reconsider for future races for this reason.
Looking forward to next week - wish we still had Greg and Mallory and wish that Nick and Vicki were out. Then I'd be happy for any of the final four to be in the final three. Now, I want Nat and Kat, Brooke and Claire and Jill and Thomas with one of the Girls teams winning.
Re: 11/28 Show Discussion *Spoilers*
Nick is a complete idiot. You just know he is going to find a way to blame her for his quitting the task. :ohno

Yeah, never mind that he TWICE told her that he was done and he wanted to quit. She only acquiesced the second time because she was fed up with HIM sleeping and trying to make her do all the work. He just was a whiny baby who wanted to get his way, and it's costing a decent racer a chance at the prize.
Even Flo of Zach and Flo wasn't THIS bad - and yes, this is saying something because he was a doll, and she would just whine and try to quit, but didn't because he was supportive.
Re: 11/28 Show Discussion *Spoilers*
I'm loving Brook/Claire even more than before! I really hope they win this whole thing.
Anyone really curious about the 6-hour penalty? Emily & Nancy were hit with a 24-hour penalty after quitting the Detour. Plus, Maria & Tiffany said in interviews that they were also hit with a 24-hour penalty which effectively took them out of the race. So what's the sudden change? Maybe the producers finally noticed how ridiculous a 24-hours penality is. There's virtually no time to catch-up.

I looked into it, and yes, they technically are the first to survive the U-Turn (although to be fair, it was a W-Turn). There have been two times when a team U-Turned another team who was ahead of them, meaning that those two teams technically survived those U-Turns (but that doesn't really count, right?). It should also be noted that Kisha & Jen would have survived it if Jen had not gone to the bathroom right before the Pit Stop.

The race started to film on May 26, 2010, meaning that it ended quite some time ago; the attack had not happened yet at the time of filming. With that said, I agree that going near North Korea is dangerous. However, I read that the leg is focused in Seoul, which is sort of by the border but still pretty far away and safe (well, at least it was at the time of filming). Still, I don't know why they're advertising the race to be by North Korea after the recent attack... maybe it was to get the viewer anxious of what's to come?

My guess is they're at least 3 hours if not more behind on top of the penalty. They most likely will not advance after this round, but because Vicki truly didn't want to quit, they didn't want to penalize her totally.
Though I will say that I agree a 24-hour penalty is silly because you may as well say that you're out. Joe and Bill were a full day behind in season 1 in the final three. Then again, they hurt themselves ironically the same leg that knocked Nancy and Emily out of the race - that hotel stay nearly eliminated them, and would've had Nancy and Emily NOT dropped out.
Then you think about it too - Flight Time and Big Easy were hit with a four hour penalty quitting the phone challenge detour and it knocked them out of the race.
I've wondered if the penalty on the detour depends on what the detour is specifically and what it entails. The harder the detour, the less hours assessed. It makes almost the most sense here.

I would think they are near the DMZ hence the mentioning of the location, but that would be VERY stupid on the producers because of the animosity N Korea has for the South. Or they wanted fans to watch "M*A*S*H" to get a slight understanding of the Korean War, I don't know.
That said, if they had to go to South Korea, Seoul is one of the places I'd let them go, if nothing else because they could go and do an Summer-Olympic themed event. That said, they're going with the Winter Games theory apparently with the dominance of South Korea in short track and have them do a challenge based on it instead. (I don't know if S. Korea has been host to a Winter Games, only summer in 1988).
Re: 11/28 Show Discussion *Spoilers*
The preview showed some teams speed skating, so you hit the nail on the head there. :up
Big Easy quit a Roadblock (a fairly simple one, I might add) so that one was a 4-hour penalty.
I've noticed that as Nick & Vicki continue in this race, more questions arise. :lol Remember how they didn't do a Speed Bump after surviving their first NEL? I'm sure it was edited out, but the show has not yet made that clear. And now there's questions surrounding their quitting the Detour.
I'm not sure the penalty is based on how difficult the tasks are, because that would be based on a judgment call. Also, I'm sure it's not based on how far behind the team is because Maria & Tiffany were in the same position as Nick & Vicki. However, the girls would have gotten a 24-hour penalty after quitting the Detour (they confirmed this in interviews). Instead of going through with the race, they were eliminated since they would have been way behind. (There are still many questions that surround this. It's not clear whether they outright quit [they deny doing this] or that the show believed that they were so behind that they eliminated them.) After this, the producers made the next leg a NEL.
My best guess is that the producers changed the rules after the Maria/Tiffany fiasco. I say it's a good decision on their part, but they're sort of 17 seasons too late. They should have known from the beginning that having a 24-hour penalty was ridiculous. Man, shoulda coulda woulda... I mean, what if Nancy & Emily had been given a 6-hour penalty instead of a 24-hour one? Would our first season have had a F/F team win?

Based on what I remember from the interviews and the timing, had they had a 6-hour penalty, it'd been close or they'd actually been safe. It was a good 8-10 hours I think between the two otherwise based on the sunlight and the comments Joe and Bill made in regard to how long they spent at the hotel, thinking they had it in the bag.
And, given their reaction to Nancy and Emily, Joe and Bill seemed to KNOW that had they not been assessed the 24-hour penalty, they'd been out. They were turkeys that first race, and they were truly shocked and stunned when they reacted based on what I saw. (BTW, I thought their attitudes had improved tremendously in All-Stars and I rooted for them up until they were eliminated).
