He didn't feel it when they kissed. He didn't think there was any connection. He basically felt that there wasn't anything there.

ETA: We all zoned in on that kiss. Haha

I can't for the life of me figure out why Mary is still there. She is a complete mess. But I guess he hasn't really had a chance to see that yet.
