I know what you mean, barefootdyke. I went through the same thing myself. *high five*

You and me both! My partner and I are taking our twins out there this coming fall to see some friends (and for our surrogate to see them for the first time since their birth), and we can't wait!

    Erik from 30 Days again..

I think Ed has gone out to get some Vodka Tonics and Cheetos (who knows THAT reference from the show?). As one of his best buddies, I'll respond for him, then let him correct me later. 1. Yes, all of us talk constantly. Ed speaks with Ryan almost daily, and Ryan and I check in every six or seven days. We all became very good friends (well, that tired Queen Ed and I have been friends for over 30 years...). 2. Yes, Ed is single. Can you believe it? He is actually VERY loyal and has a hard time getting over heartache. He had a tough break-up recently, and is just so sweet that he has to take time to heal... 3. Yes, SF is the most tolerant place on earth (Barefoot Dyke -- I love hearing about your coming out in our city!). I'll let Ed fill you in more on how HE was chosen, but I'll just say that after the final potential Gay Roommates were chosen, he wrote a VERY funny and VERY heart-felt "essay" on why he should be chosen. Now that you've seen our Ed in action, you can just imagine what he said in said essay. 4. I'm betting the entire Castro district is hounding Ed for his autograph...

Lobes, what a wonderful trip you have planned. I'm sure it will be remarkable, and your surrogate is probably counting down the days along with you.

Erik: I about fell off the couch when Ed had that "busted" look on his face and held up the bag and said "its Cheetos...just cheetos"...HYSTERICAL!

Ed: as I said, you were the perfect choice and handled yourself with grace and class the entire show. Okay the lube thing may not have been classy, but dang it was funny!!! I'm glad to hear you and Ryan are still friends, the bond you two forged throughout the 30 days was very obvious.

I don't know if this was planned or not, but I thought it was funny how Ryan was "in the closet" during the show. Right? His bedroom was a converted closet. Did it just work out that way or was that supposed to be a joke?

I thought it was a very good show. Unfortunately, like someone else said, the people who should be watching it probably aren't.

Just turned out that we had to put Ryan in the closet!

Ed's apartment only has one bedroom, so instead of sticking Ryan on the couch, we cleaned out his rather large closet and stuck some of my furniture in there. It turned out pretty good! That furniture is from my spare room, where my family and friends sleep when they visit. On Ryan's first night, I said (stupid me), "You're sleeping on the bed my Mom sleeps on when she visits." You could have heard a pin drop in the room of 12 gay men and Ryan! Talk about putting your foot in your mouth. Anyway, we did joke quite a bit about sending Ryan "back to his closet" while he was here. I just KNEW people would see the irony in it...Ryan, of course, was very good natured about it.

I love that...I think all of you could have your own reality show.

It would certainly be better than some of the drivel that's currently on, that's for sure...

    How I was chosen

I've been asked this question many times and it is a pretty good story. I answered a "cryptic" ad on Craigslist. Basically, it was asking for a gay man, between 30-40, living in or around the Castro, with a great relationship with family and with many friends. There was no reference to TV. I answered the ad, in a funny yet poignant way. Then, they said it was for a TV show , explaining the premise, and they sent me a long questionnaire where I again answered with funny responses, such as my response to the question, "Why do you want to be on this show?" to which I replied something like...to do good in our falsely divided country...to chnage people's minds...to help out those still in the closet (all sorts of good stuff like that). Then I ended it with, "and, besides, I really need help doing the dishes." I guess the executives liked it because they then asked me for an 8 minute video of myself walking around my house. To this, I said, "I'll pass." I didn't like the idea of auditioning for this like a Survivor episode or something. I guess this impressed them as they knew I wasn't an actor just looking for a roll. They sent to SF the Story Editor and a Casting Director, who asked me to meet them in their hotel room (a Holiday Inn, yikes!). I walked into the room and there they were with their video equipment (something that I immediately joked about as it seemed more like a porno audition than a reputable TV show). I chatted on camera with Keith and Abby for about 15 minutes, then, I left. Before I could make it home, they called me and asked me to join them for dinner. They thought I was perfect, I guess. Oh, and by the way, when big Hollywood folks take you out to dinner, they can't pay for the alcohol.
    That's how I was selected.
Yes, Ryan and I still talk. In fact, he is coming back to visit very soon (right around my birthday-- August 9).

Your sense of humor came through loud and clear, and I thought you were a hoot. I especially loved your text message to Ryan about the lube, and when you climbed through the window with the Cheetos in your pocket. Keith and Abby should be given a raise for choosing you.

Ah, that's interesting. Future reality tv hopefuls should take notes from your experience.

    Good to know.

I'm glad to hear you two are still in touch. Your show was absolutely my favorite, and a big part of that has to do with your personalities. Did you get any good dates from the tv exposure?
